GENERAL: Re: Gold Coast Turf Club – 24th March 2001 - Trainer T. Miller was fined the sum of $100 for failing to withdraw POETIC GARDENS by the required time.
RACE 1
ARISTOCRAT TCHNOLOGIES AUSTRALIA HANDICAP 1800 metres
A post race Veterinary examination of SHELLY which pulled up lame revealed the filly had sustained an injury to the off front tendon.
RACE 2
AINSWORTH GAME TECHNOLOGY HANDICAP 1400 metres
PODEKIA and ORBITING STAR were both slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages of the event ORBITING STAR raced ungenerously.
Rounding the home turn ORBITING STAR had to be steadied when tightened for room between A’SQUADRO and ESCAPES ME both of which shifted ground.
FORCE RECON was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.
A post race Veterinary examination of PODEKIA which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3
ALEX SURF SUPPORTERS CLUB HANDICAP 1400 metres
MICK’S DANCER jumped away awkwardly.
SPRUCED UP also jumped away awkwardly and a short distance after the start shifted out causing CRAFTY SILVER to be steadied.
SPICE MARKET was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
SOCIETY PRINCE was held up for a clear run for some distance in the straight.
GARUVA was forced to race wide throughout the event.
Trainer Robert Heathcote was advised that SPICE MARKET which bled for the second time, will now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia.
Following the running of race 3 jockey P. Wolfgram was stood down by the Club Doctor and was replaced as follows:
Race 4 CELTIC LOVER L. Deguara
Race 8 WICKY POPO A Parramore
RACE 4
NAMBOUR RSL HANDICAP 1200 metres
QUICK WINA was slow to begin.
Near the 200 metres NELSON BAY shifted out abruptly taking SILVER SHEPHERD out on to CELTIC LOVER which was taken out across the heels of QUICK WINA and had to be checked. Jockey D.Gill rider of NELSON BAY was advised to exercise more care in future.

RACE 5
ODYSSEY GAMING TECHNOLOGY HANDICAP 1300 metres
BORRACHERA jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
DAMIKA was held up for a clear run on two occasions in the straight.
A. Cowie rider of PINBALL WIZARD accidentally dropped his whip near the 50 metres.
RACE 6
XXXX CLUBS & THE COMMUNITY HANDICAP 1200 metres
POCKED MY PRIDE which was kicked behind the barriers prior to the start was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
REAL SAY and SUN SCREEN were both slow to begin.
HIMALAYA FALCON was held up for some distance in the early stages of the straight.
SPY KING was forced to race wide throughout the event.
A post race Veterinary examination of SPY KING failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following the running of Race 6 the Club Doctor reported that jockey B. Compton was in a distressed state and recommended he be transported to Hospital for observation.
RACE 7
CLUBS QUEENSLAND HANDICAP 1000 metres
On return to scale a protest was lodged by K. Pope rider of 2nd placed STAR COSSER against ABBESS BULLET ridden by A. Russell being declared the winner alleging interference at the 200 metres and again over the concluding stages.
At a protest inquiry it was found that near the 200 metres ABBESS BULLET shifted out and brushed STAR COSSER which then shifted out on its own accord. ABBESS BULLET again shifted out near the 30 metres and made heavy contact with STAR COSSER. STORMY BLUE which was following had to be steadied as a result of this incident.
Stewards upheld the protest and placings were amended to 5 : 3 : 10.
A.Russell rider of ABBESS BULLET was severely reprimanded over this incident and advised to exercise more care in future
OUR LOOSE CANNON reared as the gates were released and lost considerable ground.
STORMY BLUE had to be checked to avoid the heels of STAR COSSER near the 30 metres.
After the running of the event A. Russell was dislodged from ABBESS BULLET.
RACE 8
TAB QUEENSLAND HANDICAP 1200 metres
CREEPING and VANTERIA CONTEA came together on jumping away.
TAHI jumped away awkwardly.
WICKY POPO was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres WICKY POPO had to be checked when tightened for room by JESSIE’S SISTER which shifted in. Apprentice M. Rice rider of JESSIE’S SISTER was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
TAHI raced fiercely in the early stages o the event and approaching the 800 metres improved up on to the heels of NANJING and had to be steadied.
JESSIE’S SISTER shifted out to improve making the home turn taking NANJING wider on the track.
A post race Veterinary examination of CREEPING which raced disappointingly failed to reveal any abnormality.
All winners plus SPICE MARKET (Race 3) were swabbed.
