STEWARDS REPORT Sunday 13th January 2002

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good/Fast
Moveable rail out 9 metres for the entire circumference.

GENERAL: As M. Bennett was indisposed he was replaced on CRAIGLEA SILVER (Race 1) by M. Pelling and on ORIGINAL PRANGSTER (Race 3) by M. Pelling.

Apprentice L. Meech was fined the sum of $50 for failing to produce a letter of authority from her master Mr. P. Moody.

Trainer N. R. Dawson was fined the sum of $50 for nominating SAHARA EXPRESS in a Class 1 race when in ineligible.

RACE 1
TOWN OF SEASIDE HANDICAP 850 metres

WILLADOR was slow to begin.

RACE 2
MALENY HOTEL HANDICAP 1000 metres

QUID JESTER and GOLD RESERVE were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 900 metres QUID JESTER had to be steadied off the heels of RIDE THE RAINBOW which was inclined to lay in.

Near the 600 metres NYLA MOA became unbalanced.

NYLA MOA was forced to race in a four wide position for the major part of the event.

G. Baker who was dislodged from QUID JESTER after passing the winning post was examined by the Club Doctor and passed fit to fulfil his further engagements.

Trainer Barry Gill was advised that the nomination for QUID JESTER in a provincial area will be refused until the horse’s form shows substantial improvement.


Following the running of race 2 the track was upgraded to FAST.




RACE 3
SMARTCASH HANDICAP 1600 metres

ANOTHER DAUGHTER and ORIGINAL PRANGSTER were both slow to begin.

After being steadied shortly after the star MARKET MAN shifted in to obtain a run closer to the rail.

When being steadied approaching the 1400 metres and again at the 1200 metres GET MOBILE threw its head in the air on several occasions and lost ground.

After passing the 1400 metres TANJENONG commenced to pull hard and refused to settle forcing it to take a leading position.

When pulling hard approaching the 1000 metres ORIGINAL PRANGSTER shifted out taking GET MOBILE on to the hind quarters of KHAADESH.

For some distance after rounding the 800 metres SOBROTH and KHAADESH raced in restricted room when tightened by DIAMOND FIRE which was inclined to lay in. However apprentice M. Rice rider DIAMOND FIRE was advised to exercise more care in future.

Rounding the home turn MARKET MAN shifted out to improve and made heavy contact with ORIGINAL PRANGSTER. K. Pope rider of MARKET MAN was advised he must exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

When questioned regarding his riding tactics on FRENCH KNICKERS jockey J. Byrne stated that at its previous start on 30th December 2001 he rode the filly along in the early stages however he did not have enough pace to take up a forward position over the 1400 metres and was forced to race wide throughout the event. His explanation was noted.

Following the running of race 3 jockey G. Baker was stood down by the Club Doctor and was replaced as follows:

RACE 4
JOHN WILSON & PARTNERS HANDICAP 1200 metres

SPENBAR DANCER jumped away awkwardly.

SAHARA NOBLE jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with TELINDA LAD.

Shortly after the start OUR NOVA and DIOCLES brushed.

Near the 900 metres SNAALEE shifted in abruptly taking DIOCLES in on to TELINDA LAD which had to be checked. As Stewards were of the opinion that no rider was at fault no action was taken.
For some distance after this incident SNAALEE raced ungenerously.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of JUST A SPY jockey Michael Pelling stated that at its last start on the 23rd December 2001 the filly had struck its head in the barrier and returned to the enclosure with abrasions to the forehead. This was confirmed in the report of that date.

RACE 5
SUNCOAST STOCKFEEDS HANDICAP 1200 metres

WINDOWSILL and HUGGER MUGGER came together on jumping away.
After being a little slow to begin BRASH TINO shifted out shortly after the start and brushed TELLY’S GANG.

SLICK TIME jumped out at the start and made contact with WHITE RAJA.

After leaving the 300 metres SWERVIN’ MERVYN shifted out taking SHED THE LIGHT wider on the track.

A post race Veterinary examination of WHITE RAJA failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 6
MICK MAIR RACING STABLES HANDICAP 1400 metres

Trainer J. McLachlan was fined the sum of $50 for nominating SEAWELL for a race for which it was ineligible.

CAPTAIN MALLORY blundered on jumping away.

VERSAILLES shifted in on jumping away taking ICE PATROL in on to MOSS VALE and REGAL TYCOON.

When being steadied after passing the 1300 metres CAPTAIN MALLORY was inclined to get its head in the air.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of VERSAILLES compared to its 5th of 5 at Gympie on the 29th December 2001, trainer M. Mair stated that the gelding failed to handle the sand track conditions on that day. He also stated that at its start on the 16th December 2001 on a slow track VERSAILLES was taken on for the lead and compounded when placed under pressure in the straight. His explanation was noted.



RACE 7
BUNDILLA DRY CLEANERS HANDICAP 1000 metres

WINNING BLIND which was inclined to lay on the side of the barriers jumped away awkwardly and shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of LATIN QUARTER which was a little slow to begin.

NO INTENTION was slow to begin.

WINNING BLIND was unable to improve from the 600 metres until entering the straight.

KYMESSA was held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.

Near the 300 metres CARDINIA had to be steadied off the heels of WINNING BLIND which was taken out by LATIN QUARTER.

RACE 8
CRUSHERS LEAGUES CLUB HANDICAP 1200 metres

After jumping away awkwardly WHO AM I shifted in and made heavy contact with SMOKEY HALO.

On jumping away INDUCTED struck the side of the barrier and shifted in making contact with ILLUMINAR and became unbalanced. ILLUMINAR then shifted out taking POWER AND EGO out across the heels of MOOKATAN.

Rounding the 800 metres turn POWER AND EGO was momentarily tightened for room by INDUCTED which was taken in by VIROSCO.

After leaving the 300 metres ORIENTAL PRINCESS shifted out taking INDUCTED out on to COMET WAY which was taken out on to MASTER OF SPEED, which in turn was taken out on to the hind quarters of WHO AM I. In this incident MASER OF SPEED had to be checked and INDUCTED, COMET WAY and WHO AM I were all hampered.
Apprentice Y. Ota rider of ORIENTAL PRINCESS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding and suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on Saturday 26th January 2002.

RACE 9
CASTLEMAINE PERKINS HANDICAP 1400 metres

FLYING FEET jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start FLYING FEET and ELLANELL came together.

KRABLOONIK shifted out on jumping away taking WARRIOR’S SON out on to RHYTHMIC ROAD.

Jockey A. Parramore rider of MIXADAD accidentally dropped his whip near the 900 metres.

After leaving the 200 metres RHYTHMIC ROAD improved up on to the heels of SHOW MARTIAL and had to be steadied.

A post race Veterinary examination of KRABLOONIK revealed the filly to be slightly lame in the off side foreleg.





ALL WINNERS WERE SWABBED.
