S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN. 1/12/02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr G Ireland (Chairman), Mr D Collingwood, Mr C McLune, Mr W Flynn, Mr C Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Slow / Dead / Good / Dead

RACE 1: K SMITH & SON JEWELLERS HANDICAP – 1000M.

Trainer I O’Neill was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for VROOM by the required time.

WATERED DOWN was slow to begin.

Near the 600 metres PICCOLODEON had to be steadied off the heels of KEEZADAN which shifted in and away from ST NICCO. For some distance after this incident PICCOLODEON was inclined to race ungenerously

Near the 500 metres ST NICCO shifted in. As a result KEEZADAN which was following was obliged to shift out causing VICTORY RULE having to be steadied off the heels of KEEZADAN..


Following the running of race 1 the track was upgraded to DEAD.


RACE 2: PACIFIC FORD PLATE – 1300M.

Acting on Veterinary advice UP THE SLEEVE was declared a late scratching at 8.25am when the gelding was found to be lame in the off fore. Trainer L Mayfield-Smith was advised a veterinary certificate must be obtained for UP THE SLEEVE prior to its next race start.

ILLANDO, FIGHTING TREAT and BARSHALLAH were all slow to begin.

After jumping away awkwardly ARTIST’S TOUCH shifted out and made contact with FOCUSED.

ILLANDO raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

Rounding the 800 metres turn DEEPDENE had to be steadied off the heels of CRYSTAL SECRET which shifted in.

After passing the 400 metres KINGS LOOT shifted in and made contact with FIGHTING TREAT.

At the 100 metres CRYSTAL SECRET was retired from the event due to the mare breaking down in the off side foreleg. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the mare had ruptured the flexor tendon and CRYSTAL SECRET was euthanased on humane grounds

Jockey A Pattillo rider of ARTIST’S TOUCH accidentally dropped his whip near the 75 metres.

RACE 3: MARY HENZELL REAL ESTATE HANDICAP – 1000M.

Acting on Veterinary advice ROJAH SILVER was declared a late scratching at 1.04pm after the filly became fractious when being saddled.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ROJAH SILVER were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 9c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.

After beginning slowly LILY FILOU was hampered shortly after between RHYTHMIC PHANTOM and ALQUECHO which shifted out.

ANGEL FOR SURE raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

SPLENDID SEQUENCE and BEMBEM MARIA were both forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

After passing the 100 metres HARD STAR had to be steadied off the heels of BEMBEM MARIA which shifted in under pressure.


Following the running of race 3 the track was upgraded to GOOD.


RACE 4: CASTLEMAINE PERKINS HANDICAP – 1000M.

Apprentice M Rice rider of TEMPLE DANCE was fined the sum of $100 for being negligent in that he sent his saddle out without irons.

After jumping away awkwardly MINSKY shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of TEMPLE DANCE.

Shortly after the start SON A BOW had to be checked and PAPILLO was tightened for room between FIREFOOT REGAL which shifted out and NYLA MOA which was inclined to lay in and away from MCGINTY ROSE.

Near the 700 metres SNAP ACTION shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with FIREFOOT REGAL which shifted in and made contact with MINSKY. Some distance later MINSKY shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of TEMPLE DANCE . Apprentice L Fitzsimmons rider of SNAP ACTION was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.




RACE 5: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL HANDICAP – 1600M.

Acting on Veterinary advice ELECTION DAY was declared a late scratching at 2.29pm after the gelding became cast under the barriers.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ELECTION DAY were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 3c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.
Trainer Laurie Richardson was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained for ELECTION DAY prior to its next race start.


Following the running of race 5 due to a heavy shower the track was downgraded to DEAD.


RACE 6: BRISBANE LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT HANDICAP – 1200M.

An inquiry was opened into the reason J Powell was dislodged from SHOWZON at approximately the 400 metres. After taking evidence from jockey G Baker (LADY TRICE), jockey T Unwin (GOLDEN RUN) and jockey J Powell (SHOWZON) and viewing the official video it was established that SHOWZON attempted a narrow run between LADY TRICE and GOLDEN RUN and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of LADY TRICE. As a result SHOWZON was taken in and across the heels of GOLDEN RUN and blundered dislodging its rider J Powell.

RACE 7: CALOUNDRA RSL HANDICAP – 1400M.

Acting on Veterinary advice REPRENDRE was declared a late scratching at 11.15am when the horse was found to have an elevated temperature. Trainer R Heathcote was advised a veterinary certificate must be obtained for the horse prior to its next race start.

As Adam Morrison was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagement on RETSIL he was replaced by Michael Rodd.

GENTEEL BOY and ARTIQUE both jumped away awkwardly.

TRUE ENOUGH was slow to begin.

On jumping away SPONGE BOB was tightened for room between DIOCLES and MING’S FINALE which was taken out by THESPIAN PRINCE.

PRAYDO was forced to race wide throughout the event.

Both GENTEEL BOY and WINNING FRIENDS were held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Approaching the 300 metres GENTEEL BOY improved up on to the heels of the tiring RETSIL and had to be steadied.

At the 300 metres RETSIL had to be steadied off the heels of THESPIAN PRINCE which shifted in. Jockey M Pelling rider of THESPIAN PRINCE was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

RACE 8: JOHN WILSON & PARTNERS HANDICAP – 1200M.

As J Powell was stood down by the Club Doctor following a fall in race 6 he was replaced on PARTRIDGE by K Pope.

As M Pelling was stood down by the Club Doctor he was replaced on CERTAIN EDITION by D Evans.

PARTRIDGE and CERTAIN EDITION made heavy contact on jumping away.

Passing the 1000 metres RAPADAMA commenced to race fiercely and approaching the 800 metres had to be checked after improving up on to the heels of PLATINE.
As a result RAPADAMA then shifted out and made contact with BOBBY GEE.

TELEGRAND was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Inside the 200 metres TELEGRAND had to be steadied off the heels of PETRIA which shifted out under pressure. Jockey A Spiteri rider of PETRIA was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.


GENERAL: Jockey B Stewart was found guilty of a charge of improper conduct under AR 175 (a) and was fined the sum of $500.

Jockey T Unwin was also found guilty of a charge of improper conduct under AR 175 (a) and was fined the sum of $250.






ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
