PIC 'N' MIX, which was slow to jump, shifted in abruptly after the start.

A SIR LA and AFEWATTHEVIEW were also a little slow to begin.

For some distance approaching the first turn, MEXICAN GEM raced ungenerously when having to be checked away from the heels of JONQUILS.

PRETTY SLEEK raced greenly throughout the race.

Stewards questioned B. Stewart in relation to the performance of A SIR LA, which after settling at the rear of the field, was hard ridden from the 600m. and finished midfield. B. Stewart stated that whilst it was decided that the horse be ridden back in the field from its wide draw, it settled further back than anticipated when he had to ease to avoid the heels of HANOI'S MEMORY approaching the 1100m.. He stated that when at the rear of the field he was trailing PRETTY SLEEK, however due to PRETTY SLEEK racing greenly, he was placed several lengths off the leaders, and whilst the horse was placed under pressure and hard ridden from teh 600m., the felt that PRETTY SLEEK reponded to his riding and did make ground in the straight.

RACE 2: SKY CHANNEL KINGS BEACH TAVERN H'CAP - 1000M.

KALINGA TASH was slow to begin.

CAPTAIN SIMBA jumped outwards at the start, making contact with HARDCORE, forcing that horse out on to the hind quarters of TWINKY.

ROYALTY MISS, which jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with the hind quarters of SECRET PASSER, which was tightened by SPOUT, which was taken in by SHED THE LIGHT.

STORMIN' ELLE was tightened between RAGGED BLOSSOM and SUMMER OF LOVE, which jumped inwards at the start.

PRETTY SMOOTH was caught wide after the start and was obliged to race wide throughout.

When the pace eased approaching the 1000m., SUMMER OF LOVE had to be restrained off the heels of SHED THE LIGHT. SPOUT, which was following, also had to be restrained and shifted out on to STORMIN' ELLE, which became unbalanced and raced ungenerously when bumped.

Approaching the first turn, WHERE'STHEBEERDEAR got its head up and raced ungenerously, and making the turn was then inconvenienced by TRIKWILA, which had been pulling hard when racing ungenerously.

The connections of SECRET PASSER were questioned concerning the disappointing performance of the horse, which compounded over the latter stages. Jockey S. Scriven stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when asked for an effort on straightening, SECRET PASSER failed to respond to his riding. Trainer D. Newham stated that the horse had participated in 2 barrier trials leading up to today's event and was confident that the horse was fit to run out the 1400 metres first up. Mrs Newham undertook to trial the horse and also indicated she would inform stewards of anything that may be amiss with the horse following the disappointing performance today. A veterinary examination of SECRET PASSER failed to reveal any abnormalitty and a swab sample was taken.

PRETTY SMOOTH was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon following the race and he indicated that the horse had sustained a laceration in the off nostril, which may have been as a result of the horse hitting its head in the barriers.

Near the 150m., INTELLIGENTLY then shifted out, tightening ENTEI, which had been unalanced when racing between DON SEQUALO and ENTEI, both of which were inclined to shift ground. Both L. Wray, rider of INTELLIGENTLY, and S. Galloway, rider of DON SEQUALO, were reminded of their obligations to keep their mounts on a straight course.

RACE 7: SKY CHANNEL PEREGIAN BEACH HOTEL H'CAP - 1300M.

When questioned as to his vigour on BUZZ in the early stages of the straight, B.
