Race 5: XXXX SUNSHINE COAST GUINEAS PLATE - 1600m
1st – Maslins Beach 2nd – Sequential Charm 3rd – Danehill Princess 4th – Scoot

ERSILIA was a late scratching at 2:42 p.m. after that horse was fractious in the barriers resulting in an injury to K. Wharton. AQUARIUS then became fractious in the barriers and was a late scratching at 2:44 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Following the late scratching ERSILIA and AQUARIUS, stewards ordered that any bets placed prior to 2:42 p.m. were not subject to deductions, and any bets placed between 2:42 p.m. and 2:44 p.m. were subject to deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets, with all monies invested on both horses to be refunded. K. Wharton was subsequently examined by the Club’s medical officer and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Prior to the announcement of correct weight, J. Taylor, the rider of the 3rd horse past the post, DANEHILL PRINCESS, lodged an objection against the first horse past the post MASLINS BEACH (C. Brown), alleging interference in the straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official film, stewards were satisfied that DANEHILL PRINCESS could not have beaten MASLINS BEACH and therefore dismissed J. Taylor’s objection. In the circumstances, stewards deemed that J. Taylor’s objection was frivolous and J. Taylor was fined $200 under AR. 165(3).

PLAYGROUND EXPRESS (M. Du Plessis) stood flat-footed as the gates opened and lost considerable ground. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for PLAYGROUND EXPRESS.

WINMARA (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.

TAYRHIANA (K. Pope) jumped in at the start and made contact with SCOOT (B. Pengelly).

Near the 300m SEQUENTIAL CHARM was tightened for room between DANEHILL PRINCESS (J. Taylor), which was taken out slightly by SCOOT and MASLINS BEACH which shifted in.

Jockey C. Brown, the rider of MASLINS BEACH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SEQUENTIAL CHARM, resulting in that horse being taken in and having to be steadied to avoid the heels of MASLINS BEACH. As a consequence, SEQUENTIAL CHARM then shifted in and made contact with DANEHILL PRINCESS, which shifted in and made contact with SCOOT, resulting in interference to SEQUENTIAL CHARM, DANEHILL PRINCESS and SCOOT. Jockey C. Brown’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight today Saturday 30th June 2007, and expire at midnight on Thursday 12th July 2007. In addition, C. Brown was fined $500.

Pannell), which was taken out slightly by OUR LORD MONTY, and CURBYOURENTHUSIASM (M. Du Plessis), which shifted in slightly. M. Du Plessis was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was fully culpable for the incident, but nevertheless was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 700m MR HORNBLOWER shifted out in an endeavour to improve and made contact with WILLY LEICA (G. Colless). WILLY LEICA held its ground, resulting in MR HORNBLOWER becoming unbalanced.

Jockey T. Pannell, the rider of REVERENZA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MR HORNBLOWER, resulting in MR HORNBLOWER being taken out, causing interference to TELEGRAND and STORMHILL, obliging TELEGRAND to be checked. Jockey T. Pannell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Thursday 5th July, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 14 July 2007. In addition, T. Pannell was fined $500.

Jockey G. Colless, the rider of WILLY LEICA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of STORMHILL, taking that horse in on to TELEGRAND, which in turn was taken in on to MR HORNBLOWER, causing TELEGRAND to be checked when tightened for room. Jockey G. Colless’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Wednesday 4th July 2007, and expire at midnight on Sunday 15th July 2007. In addition, G. Colless was fined $500.

Approaching the 100m AMYJAYE POWER had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between OUR LORD MONTY and HARD TO CATCH (B. Stewart) which shifted out to obtain clear running.

WILLY LEICA was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.

Stewards questioned jockey B. El-Issa and trainer N. Couchman regarding the riding tactics adopted on GEE I JANE when the mare went to the front. Jockey El-Issa stated that he was given no instructions by Mr Couchman, but after beginning fairly and with the slow tempo of the race, the mare was caught wide in a forward position. He added that as there was no speed in the race, he elected to ride the mare forward to the lead as he felt that this action was beneficial to the mare’s chances. Trainer N. Couchman informed stewards that he gave jockey El-Issa no binding instructions because of the horse’s wide alley and the unknown tempo of the event. Mr Couchman endorsed jockey El-Issa’s initiative in going forward. Stewards noted their explanation.

Race 7: CRUSHERS LEAGUES CLUB CALOUNDRA CITY CUP - 2400m
1st – King Latarmiss 2nd – Scattergun 3rd – Cold Start 4th – Sculptor

ZAVITE (C. Brown) reared as the gates opened.

DEVASTATING (J. Byrne) and PHANTOM AGENT (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly.

DEVASTATING raced wide for the majority of the event.

Rounding the home turn DEVASTATING had to be steadied when tightened for room between SIR SENSIBLE (G. Colless) and EXALTED TIME (C. Lindop) which was taken out by KING LATARMISS (K. Pope). K. Pope was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ICE CHARIOT, ZAVITE and DIAMONDSONDINSIDE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
