______________
Trainer M. Simpson was fined the sum of $200 under AR175(s) in that she was found to have in her colours bag spurs which were modified and therefore unsuitable for use. Jockey W. O’Connell was also fined the sum of $200 under AR88, in that he weighed out as the rider of BEERALLROUND with spurs which were modified and therefore unsuitable for use.
Race 1: Beerwah Post Office Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Red Centurion 2nd – Black Banner 3rd – Wanna Be Someone 4th – Degree Of Honour
WANNA BE SOMEONE (B. Spriggs) raced wide during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead at a point approaching the 800m.
HEIR EXPRESS (A. Pattillo) commenced to overrace when the pace slackened near the 1200m and as a result shifted wider on the track, forcing COUNT IGLESIA (J. Letherby) wider on the track. COUNT IGLESIA raced wide form that point onwards.
Stewards interviewed trainer G. Moon regarding the performance of COUNT IGLESIA, which proved uncompetitive. Mr Moon explained that he had undertaken a number of gear changes for today’s event on COUNT IGLESIA and it was his opinion that the addition of a Norton bit had a detrimental effect in that the gelding resented this piece of gear. He further added that it would now be his intention to remove the Norton bit and place blinkers back on the horse. Mr Moon was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding and that a repeat performance would result in the gelding being barred from TAB venues.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice T. Bell regarding the performance of SILENT CHARADES. Apprentice Bell stated that during the early stages of the home straight he felt the horse may have gone amiss and for this reason he did not pressure the gelding fully for the remainder of the event. Trainer’s representative indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SILENT CHARADES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards advised connections that the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Race 2: Monier PGH Class 3 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Patapinda 2nd – Flagges 3rd – Mik Yelrow 4th – Evening Vision
Trainer A. Balke was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LION BEAUTY by the prescribed time.
EVENING VISION (K. Wharton) and ALL KIWI (K. Fujii) were slow to begin.
EVENING VISION raced wide during the early stages before being ridden vigorously to a position outside the leader near the 700m.
NERO’S FIRE (J. Kropp) and CORSTON (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned A. Pattillo regarding the tactics adopted on CORSTON. Jockey Pattillo stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position, however after beginning only fairly it became apparent to him in the early stages he would be unable to muster sufficient early speed to secure a forward position and he elected to take hold in an attempt to position CORSTON closer to the fence. Jockey Pattillo then explained that his mount commenced to overrace approaching the 800m and as a result he was forced to shift to the outside of REGAL RUBEN (J. Letherby) to avoid that horse’s heels. He added that CORSTON then continued to be reluctant to take up a trailing position behind REGAL RUBEN, which then commenced to lose ground from the 600m. This caused him to again shift wider on the track and ride with vigour approaching the 500m in an attempt to improve his position. Jockey Pattillo added that in light of the circumstances, the horse finished the race off well and he was pleased the overall performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 3.
Race 3: Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Originate 2nd – Nitro Circus 3rd – Kassmer 4th - Maianbar
Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of J. Brown as the rider of CALL ME COBBER.

GEE WILLIKER (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with BEERALLROUND (W. O’Connell) and lost ground.

GEE WILLIKER (N. Thomas) overraced in the early stages.
Near the 800m, KASSMER (R. Hancock) shifted in, tightening the running of ROCK TO RULE (R. Mason), which was steadied and shifted out, hampering both CANGAI MAN (G. Killen) and ORIGINATE (T. Bell), causing both horses to be forced wider on the track. In this incident, R. Hancock, rider of KASSMER, and R. Mason, rider of ROCK TO RULE, were both advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 800m, NOT JUST FOR SHO improved onto heels and had to be checked. NOT JUST FOR SHO then commenced to hang out and raced ungenerously; from that point until leaving the 400m. Trainer S. O’Dea was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of JUST FOR SHO. A post-race veterinary examination of NOT JUST FOR SHO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
