SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From SCTC 16 May 2012 – Race 5: Trainer F. Phillips reported that although he had advised stewards following the race that he would send WINMARA for a spell, subsequent to the event the mare had pulled up well and he attributed the performance to the mare not appreciating being ridden along vigorously in the early stages. He advised that in light of those circumstances he has kept the mare in work.
Race 1: BRISBANE BROTHERS RUGBY LEAGUE MAIDEN PLATE - 1600m
1st – Oceltip 2nd – Posen 3rd – Irish Gig 4th – Mashaba
The start of this race was delayed when A’MAISEY (A. Hearn) proved difficult to load. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of A’MAISEY.
A’MAISEY, which was slow to begin, then commenced to overrace at a point near the 1200m and as a result was shifted wider on the track and improved to a position outside the lead and raced three wide throughout.
STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER (M. Hellyer) and OCTAVAR (R. Mason) were slow to begin.
SPEDELLA (L. Finlay) shifted out at the start making contact with OCELTIP (M. Cahill).
Leaving the 1300m PASILLA (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of SPEDELLA which had a tendency to overrace when being restrained to avoid the heels of MASHABA (T. Bell) which shifted in. Following this incident SPEDELLA over raced until a point approaching the 1000m.
IRISH GIG (L. Rolls) overraced during the middle stages.
IRISH GIG was held up for clear running from the 400m until approaching the 300m and at that point had to be steadied from the heels of SPEDELLA which shifted out.
A post-race veterinary examination of A’MAISEY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
SPEDELLA lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 2: BRISBANE BROTHERS RUGBY LEAGUE CLASS 2 H’CAP - 850m
1st – Mr Thatcher 2nd – Nosealot 3rd – Zamarski 4th – Lillavardee
ZAMARSKI (M. Hellyer) and SAMMY LOU (B. Richardson) were slow to begin.
UNIQUE FUSE (D. Gill) was tightened for room at the start between NOSEALOT (P. Schmidt) and LILLAVARDEE (E. Wilkinson), both of which shifted ground. In this incident both UNIQUE FUSE and NOSEALOT lost ground.
Leaving the 600m MR THATCHER (S. Galloway) overraced at the heels of ISHI NAUGHTY (L. Cheshire) and when being restrained hung in for a short distance. As a result of this NOT DECLARED (A. Hearn), which was racing to the inside, was reluctant to hold its position and lost ground.
Near the 300m NOSEALOT attempted to shift around the heels of MIGHTY MOUNTAIN (R. Hancock) to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of LILLAVARDEE, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Approaching the 100m ZAMARSKI became unbalanced when tightened for room between MIGHTY MOUNTAIN and ROCKIN’ REES (C. Eaton), which shifted out under pressure.
C. Eaton (ROCKIN’ REES) was reprimanded for using her whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.
Race 3: TRIPLE PLAY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m

ON THE DECK (E. Wilkinson) and EASYAYE (J. Taylor) both lost ground at the start when tightened for room between GO THE SHOW (M. Cahill) and ITCHINTOWIN (S. Galloway), which shifted in.
PLAY IT AGAIN ISA (J. Stanley), when racing in restricted room near the 800m, was reluctant to hold its position and lost ground. As a result EASYAYE, which was following, had to be steadied and then shifted to the outside of PLAY IT AGAIN ISA. A short distance later when leaving the 700m PLAY IT AGAIN ISA commenced to hang out forcing both EASYAYE and FINNIGAN'S FOLLY wider on the track. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of PLAY IT AGAIN ISA, and he advised stewards of his intention to experiment with the use of blinkers during track work.
ON THE DECK raced greenly throughout and hung out rounding the home turn, forcing both EASYAYE and FINNIGAN'S FOLLY wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination of ON THE DECK revealed the horse to have sustained a minor laceration to the near hind leg and to have lost its near hind plate.
J. Hoopert reported to stewards that WHAT A SENSATION had a tendency to lay in from the 400m onwards and at a ponit near the 200m he was obliged to stop riding when WHAT A SENSATION shifted in and away from BIG DECISION (J. Byrne).
Race 4: THE CONFRATERNITY OF BROTHERS CLUBS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m

NORTHERN WARRIOR (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.
After passing the 800m SURF FIRE (L. Cassidy) commenced to overrace and hung out despite the efforts of its rider and had to be checked to avoid the heels of ANGELFLY (E. Wilkinson). A short distance later SURF FIRE shifted in tightening the running of SUNSET AFFAIR (R. McMahon), resulting in SUNSET AFFAIR being steadied and losing its position. A TAD APART (P. Schmidt), which was following, had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track, racing wide from that point onwards. R. Wilson, the trainer of SURF FIRE, was advised that a warning was being placed on the filly’s racing manners.
ANGELFLY raced three wide throughout.
Near the 300m apprentice T. Bell (LADY OF CAPRI ) was obliged to stop riding and shift out to secure clear running when disappointed for a run to the inside of DYSFUNCTION (M. Cahill), which shifted in momentarily.
Race 5: BRISBANE BROTHERS RUGBY LEAGUE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200m
1st – Stay Til Dawn 2nd – Show Affection 3rd – Chief Bright Star 4th – Man Of Money
As apprentice K. Gates was ill, apprentice D. McWhinney was substituted as the rider of SUMMER LUSCIOUS and ZAROXIE (Race 9).
STAY TIL DAWN (R. McMahon), which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
FIRING HIGH (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.
OVERRULE (G. Goold) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
LOFTY'S MATE (K. Wharton), SUMMER LUSCIOUS (D. McWhinney) and CREDIT MISS (A. Hearn) jumped away awkwardly.
OVERRULE, LOFTY'S MATE, HOOKED ON PLATINUM (M. Cahill) and POP SELLARS (R. Hancock) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 800m LOFTY'S MATE, which had a tendency to overrace, had to be steadied from the heels of CHIEF BRIGHT STAR (S. Galloway), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey Galloway was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
SUMMER LUSCIOUS overraced during the middle stages.
Following this event S. Galloway was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club doctor and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 6: TRIPLE PLAY BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Rhetoric 2nd – Karoo 3rd – Putyourfaithinme 4th – Crosscannons
Correct weight was delayed to afford both E. Wilkinson (KAROO – 2nd) and apprentice T. Bell (PUTYOURFAITHINME – 3rd) the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage over the concluding stages of the race to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner. After viewing the film, both riders indicated they did not wish to proceed.
KEVEJON (A. Kitson) was slow to begin.
Apprentice T. Bell, the rider of PUTYOURFAITHINME, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 900m he attempted to force a run where there was insufficient room between CROSSCANNONS (G. Killen) and KAROO (E. Wilkinson) and as a result of being unable to secure clear running he was forced to check his mount from the heels of KAROO, and when being checked PUTYOURFAITHINME lost ground and MORE ON THE TOE (L. Finlay), which was following, was obliged to be restrained by its rider to avoid the heels of PUTYOURFAITHINME. Apprentice T. Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 26 May, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 6 June 2012.
Passing the 200m E. Wilkinson (KAROO) was obliged to stop riding and shift around the heels of CROSSCANNONS to secure clear running when disappointed for a run to the inside of that horse after CROSSCANNONS was taken in by RHETORIC (J. Byrne), which shifted in under pressure.
Approaching the 100m apprentice T. Bell (PUTYOURFAITHINME) was obliged to stop riding and alter course when disappointed for a run between FUNKY LADY (K. Matheson) and CROSSCANNONS which shifted in and away from RHETORIC, which was again laying in under pressure. M. Brosnan, trainer of RHETORIC, was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
Race 7: THE CONFRATERNITY OF BROTHERS CLUBS CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Rains 2nd – Sugar Daddy 3rd – Shadowofexcellence 4th – Degree Of Honour
Connections of TWILIGHT REEF (T. Bell) advised that with the benefit of drawing a good barrier for today’s event their intention will be to have the horse ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit.
SUGAR DADDY (C. Munce), MISTER CHICAGO (L. Cassidy) and LUNAR CYCLE (B. Richardson) were slow to begin.
LUNAR CYCLE overraced during the early stages.
Stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for RUSH TRIP (A. Hearn) falling after passing the winning post. Evidence was taken from R. Mason (CHURCH LANE), E. Wilkinson MORATORIO), J. Stanley (FUNDED) apprentice R. Ride (PROVINCIAL), A. Spinks (DEGREE OF HONOUR), K. Wharton (STAG) and apprentice T. Bell (TWILIGHT REEF), and the inquiry was adjourned to enable apprentice A. Hearn, who was transported to the Nambour Base Hospital, to be available to give evidence at a later date. A post-race veterinary examination of RUSH TRIP revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Rundle was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for RUSH TRIP prior to its next start.
Race 8: BRISBANE BROTHERS RUGBY LEAGUE CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Rhapsodic 2nd – Tallyho 3rd – Internal Revenue 4th – Faultless Dancer
Connections of BRAMPTON (A. Spinks) advised that because of the awkward alley the rider will be instructed to take up a position in the second half of the field.
The start of this race was delayed due to awaiting the arrival of a replacement ambulance following the fall in Race 7 and while holding for an interstate event.
LOTACHOC (J. Stanley) was slow to begin and was hampered shortly afterwards between TALLYHO (E. Wilkinson) and LA MARIPOSA (T. Bell), both of which shifted ground.
STAND AND CHEER (G. Goold), LADY GOWER (D. McWhinney), LA MARIPOSA, BEAR’S ECHELON (R. Hancock) and INCANDESCENT (G. Cooksley) raced wide throughout.
INTERNAL REVENUE (R. McMahon) was held up rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 100m LOTACHOC had to shift out to obtain clear running and in doing so hampered LA MARIPOSA.
Over the concluding stages LOTACHOC was disappointed for a run between RHAPSODIC (K. Wharton) and TALLYHO, which shifted out under pressure. As a result, LOTACHOC went to the line without being fully tested.
Stewards afforded apprentice T. Bell the opportunity to comment on the performance of LA MARIPOSA, which was below market expectations. He stated that despite being wide, the filly travelled comfortably, however proved disappointing after passing the 400m and failed to run on as expected. A post-race veterinary examination of LA MARIPOSA revealed no abnormalities.
Race 9: THE CONFRATERNITY OF BROTHERS CLUBS CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Sammie Amie 2nd – Balmarossa 3rd – Harish 4th – Sweet And Vicious
As a result of the delay to the start of Race 8, the start of this race was rescheduled to 4.33 p.m.
OVER IN SECONDS (E. Wilkinson), which had blood in its mouth, was examined at the barriers by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.
The start was delayed when OLIGARCH (A. Spinks), which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. The start was further delayed when PAIN AND GAIN (C. Munce), which lunged forward and hit the front of the gates, was also examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
SAMMIE AMIE (A. Kitson) and MAGNI (G. Goold) were slow to begin.
PAIN AND GAIN and OVER IN SECONDS both jumped away awkwardly and made contact.
Near the 900m ABSOLOUIE (K. Matheson) improved on to the heels of DREAMS AND WISHES (M. Cahill) and had to be checked. Shortly after this ABSOLOUIE shifted out and made contact with SHOW A NOEE (L. Cassidy).
SAMMIE AMIE was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
SWEET AND VICIOUS (J. Byrne) was held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until leaving the 300m.
Near the 300m OLIGARCH had to be restrained when tightened for room between HARISH (R. McMahon) and DREAMS AND WISHES which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Leaving the 100m DREAMS AND WISHES was inconvenienced when forced to race in restricted room between HARISH and SHOW A NOEE, which shifted out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of SAMMIE AMIE, trainer D. Raffin reported that this was his first start with the filly, and he believed that the change of environment in coming to his stable was a contributing factor. He added that he had done little work and freshened the horse up in preparation for today’s event. He also noted that in recent starts SAMMIE AMIE has started on rain-affected tracks and this may have had a bearing on its recent form.
Stewards afforded apprentice P. Schmidt the opportunity to comment on the performance of AZZIMATO, which was below market expectations. Apprentice Schmidt stated that after travelling well the mare became unbalanced when buffeted between runners rounding the home turn and when asked for an effort in the home straight failed to respond to her riding. Trainer S. Mackinnon advised that in his opinion, from his observations, AZZIMATO appeared to lose ground quickly when restrained near the 800m and would benefit from the addition of blinkers. In light of the performance, it would be his intention to add blinkers to the horse prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination of AZZIMATO revealed no abnormalities.
