Race 1: Club Manager’s Association Australia QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1300m
1st – Platinum Mint 2nd – Stellenbosch 3rd – Coal Command 4th – You’re So Lucky

UNSPOKEN (M. Hellyer) and STELLENBOSCH LOVE (B. Stewart) were slow to begin.

STELLENBOSCH LOVE overraced in the early stages.

Leaving the 300m, PLATINUM MINT (R. Jamieson) shifted out to improve and bumped YOU’RE SO LUCKY (R. Wiggins).

Race 2: Coca-Cola Amatil Benchmark 80 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Epic Dragon 2nd – Lovingthelimelight 3rd – Hangover Henry 4th – Extreme Mover

When questioned as to the nomination and subsequent scratching of JUGAHLATION and WELCOME PARADE, trainer D. Murphy stated that after nominations were extended when there were only 3 original nominations he elected to nominate JUGAHLATION, WELCOME PARADE and HANGOVER HENRY. Mr Murphy added that all 3 runners performed best on rain affected tracks and as rain was predicted, this influenced his decision to nominate those horses. When there was minimal rain overnight, he elected to scratch JUGAHLATION and WELCOME PARADE. He further added that JUGAHLATION had accepted to race at yesterday’s Doomben meeting but he elected to scratch there also due to the firm track. The explanation was noted.

Jockey D. Browne was also questioned regarding the performance of HANGOVER HENRY. He advised that the gelding was not suited by the slow tempo in the middle stages of the race, adding he was reluctant to increase the pace of the race of his own accord due to the impost of 59.5 kilograms. Jockey Brown added that he was not disappointed in the performance of HANGOVER HENRY, stating that the gelding finished the race off well, but was however unable to sprint as well as today’s winner. Trainer D. Murphy concurred with jockey Brown’s comments. A post-race veterinary examination of HANGOVER HENRY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: International Game Technology Class 4 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Visona Rose 2nd – Sheez Keen 3rd – Port Gallery 4th – Like A Gee Six

R. Hurdle was reprimanded for being late to weight out for his ride on LIKE A GEE SIX. Trainer B. Currie was also reprimanded for presenting LIKE A GEE SIX late to the enclosure.

SWEET LITTLE FILLY (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

PORT GALLERY and LIKE A GEE SIX (R. Hurdle) began awkwardly.

BUSTOPHER JONES (B. Stewart) overraced in the early stages when being restrained.

OUR MAIKAI (K. Wharton) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, and when attempting to improve inside BUSTOPHER JONES, made contact with that runner on a number of occasions.

Upon return to scale, G. Colless reported that when asked for an effort upon entering the straight, SWEET LITTLE FILLY failed to stretch out and proved disappointing. Jockey Colless was of the opinion that the mare was not comfortable on the firm track conditions, as was the case at its last 2 starts, and would be better suited on rain affected surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination of SWEET LITTLE FILLY revealed bilateral foreleg lameness. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for SWEET LITTLE FILLY prior to its next race start.

Race 4: Brand & Slater Architects Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Hendy 2nd – Ozman 3rd – Bolts’n’holts 4th - Chide

Trainer G. Ryan was fined $100 for the late notification of J. Lloyd as the rider of CHIDE.

CHIDE (J. Lloyd) began awkwardly.

BOLTS’N’HOLTS (D. Browne) was slow to begin.

GIVE IT BERRIES (S. Galloway) was held up from rounding the home turn to a point leaving the 300m.

Approaching the 300m, HENDY (R. Wiggins) improved into a narrow run to the inside of BOLTS’N’HOLTS and in doing so made heavy contact with that runner, forcing it out on to CASINO GARDENS (G. Colless).

SABARBAH (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

D. Browne reported that BOLTS’N’HOLTS hung out for the majority of the event.

When asked to explain the performance of CASINO GARDENS, G. Colless stated that the colt travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race, however the colt failed to respond when asked for an effort in the early stages of the home straight and failed to finish the race off as expected. G. Colless express his disappointment in the performance of CASINO GARDENS. The trainer’s representative advised that CASINO GARDENS would now be retired from the stable. A post-race veterinary examination of CASINO GARDENS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the performance of HENDY, R. Wiggins stated at its last start after being caught wide in the early stages, he elected to improve forward, which resulted in the gelding compounding in the home straight. He added that it was neither his nor the stable’s intention to ride the horse in a forward position on that occasion. Jockey Wiggins further stated he received no specific instructions today and from the wide barrier he elected to take up a position with cover at the rear of the field. He further stated that the stable advised him that HENDY had been working well leading into today’s event. The explanation was noted.

The connections of SABARBAH, which finished a distant last, advised that the mare would now be retired from racing. Nevertheless, stewards advised them that, prior to racing again, SABARBAH must perform satisfactorily at country meetings before being permitted to race at provincial meetings.

R. McMahon was questioned regarding the performance of FAIRDINKUM LUCKY. He stated that despite travelling well in the early and middle stages, the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the straight and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Smith expressed his disappointment in the performance of FAIRDINKUM LUCKY and was unable to offer any explanation. He advised that in light of today’s performance he would reconsider FAIRDINKUM LUCKY’s current racing program.

Race 5: Schweppes 1783 Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Zippity Lass 2nd – Requirement 3rd – Rock Hunter 4th – Steel Hammer

A pre-race veterinary examination of REQUIREMENT, which had not raced in over a year, cleared the gelding to race.

The start was delayed when AUDACIOUS ACE (C. Kearney) proved difficult to load. Trainer G. Harrison was advised that she would be required to provide a barrier certificate for AUDACIOUS ACE.

AUDACIOUS ACE began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SERRARI (E. Wilkinson).

STEERMAN (K. Wharton) and LOVES RETURN (R. Hancock) were slow to begin.

STEEL HAMMER (B. Stewart) shifted out at the start, bumping REQUIREMENT (D. Browne), which was initially slow to begin.

Near the 600m, REQUIREMENT had to be eased when tightened for room between STEERMAN and SERRARI, which was inclined to lay in at that point.

Near the 500m, STEERMAN shifted out, inconveniencing SERRARI.

Leaving the 300m, ZIPPITY LASS (J. Lloyd) commenced to hang out under pressure and continued to do so for the remainder of the race.

ROCK HUNTER (J. Hoopert) raced wide throughout.

SEQUA BLOOM (L. Tarrant) hung out badly throughout and as a result made the home turn extremely wide. Trainer R. Pratt was advised that SEQUA BLOOM must trial satisfactorily on 2 occasions in official trials prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Aristocrat Choy Sun Jackpots Class 2 H'cap – 1400m
1st – Fairy Green 2nd – Rogertheredneck 3rd – Queen Commander 4th – Gold Cat

COBALT BLUE (J. Lloyd) was slow to muster speed in the early stages.

Approaching the 300m, CRAIGLEA SHERRY (J. Hoopert) was momentarily held up on heels of OH SUNDAY (L. Tarrant).

A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE BOUTIQUE, which compounded in the home straight and was eased out of the event near the 300m, revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer L. Wheeler was advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily, and he would also be required to provide to stewards the results of and ECG on LITTLE BOUTIQUE prior to its next race start. Mr Wheeler advised that LITTLE BOUTIQUE would now be retired.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on FERTIRO, apprentice A. Taylor stated that at its last start, the gelding suffered interference near the 1000m, resulting in it racing further back in the field than expected. She added that she was instructed to take up a forward position, however it was not her intention to lead. When further questioned as to whether or not she considered taking up a position outside GOLDCAT, A. Taylor stated that FERTIRO at its previous starts had resented being restrained, and as such allowed the mare to stride forward to take up a position in the lead.

Race 7: Aruze Gaming Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Sharma 2nd – Dwan 3rd – Pat’s Boy 4th – Kamarah

NOBLE GAME (E. Wilkinson) began awkwardly.

KAMARAH (R. Hancock) and GOODHORSEHYMN (B. Stewart) were slow to begin.

GOODHORSEHYMN (B. Stewart) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

On return to scale, J. Stanley reported that PAT’S BOY hung out under pressure in the home straight, placing him at a disadvantage in riding the horse out.

Race 8: Aeiou Foundation Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Thirsty For Blood 2nd – Get On 3rd – Vain At Heart 4th – Exquisite

EXQUISITE ANGEL (K. Wharton) was tightened for room shortly after the start between THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (R. Wiggins) and FARMERWANTSAWIFE (A. Taylor), both of which shifted ground.

WISHMORE (M. Vance) was slow to begin.

HARRISVILLE TOFF (B. Stewart) and WHAT A TYCOON (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m, VAIN AT HEART (S. Galloway) had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room by DIXIE FLYER (G. Goold), which shifted in marginally.

Approaching the 400m, DIXIE FLYER (G. Goold) was forced to race in restricted room between HARRISVILLE TOFF and VAIN AT HEART, which shifted out to improve.

Passing the 150m, WISHMORE (M. Vance) had to be checked when disappointed for a run between TRADIES HOPE (R. Jamieson) and FARMERWANTSAWIFE (A. Taylor), and obliged M. Vance, rider of WISHMORE, to shift back to the inside of TRADIES HOPE to obtain clear running.

Leaving the 100m, EVERYTHING’S SET (D. Browne) had to be eased to avoid the heels of VAIN AT HEART, which shifted out under pressure.

When questioned as to the tempo set in the early stages of the race, apprentices R. Jamieson (TRADIES HOPE) and A. Taylor (FARMERWANTSAWIFE) both explained that they were instructed to lead. Apprentice Jamieson added that she had been specifically instructed not to restrain TRADIES HOPE as it resented being restrained at previous starts. Apprentice Taylor stated that after obtaining a position outside TRADIES HOPE she attempted to restrain FARMERWANTSAWIFE to obtain a position behind TRADIES HOPE, however the gelding began to overrace at which point she was unable to restrain FARMERWANTSAWIFE . Apprentice Taylor was of the view that FARMERWANTSAWIFE’S tendency to overrace in the middle stages resulted in it compounding over the concluding stages.

When afforded the opportunity to explain the performance of DASH FOR DOLLAR, jockey R. McMahon stated that he was held up from a point leaving the 500m when DIXIE FLYER (G. Goold) failed to improve into the race. R. McMahon added that he then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight, however DASH FOR DOLLAR failed to finish the race off as expected when able to obtain clear running from a point leaving the 300m. He was of the view that his inability to improve into the race from the 500m had a detrimental effect on the performance of DASH FOR DOLLAR.

DIXIE FLYER cast a near hind plate in running.

A post race veterinary examination of DASH FOR DOLLAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
