GENERAL

As E. Wilkinson was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

R. McMahon and T. Bell were both reprimanded for their standard of dress at today’s race meeting.

Race 1: LOOT HOMEWARES MAIDEN H'CAP – 2200M

Trainer G. Brown advised that GOLD DEAL, which has been going back in its races, will be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden in a midfield position.

SIDESHOW SUMMER (B. Richardson) jumped away awkwardly.

After passing the 1600m, when the pace was only steady, T. Pattillo rode TRUSTED LOVE forward to take up a position in the lead after passing the 1300m.

Leaving the 500m CUBA LIBRE (A. Spinks) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with YARRAWA BOY (J. Byrne), forcing that horse wider.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of YARRAWA BOY, J. Byrne explained that whilst the horse settled well in the middle stages, it failed to respond to his riding when asked for an effort on straightening and did not finish the race off as anticipated. Trainer R. McCall stated that in his opinion YARRAWA BOY was disappointing and he could not explain the performance. He added that following today’s run he would continue with the horse’s current preparation, however would consider attempting to lead on the gelding at its next start as in his opinion the horse may be suited to being able to dictate the pace of its races. A post-race veterinary examination of YARRAWA BOY failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards questioned T. Pattillo regarding his tactics adopted on TRUSTED LOVE, in particular his reasons for leaving the fence after passing the 500m, which afforded clear running for the eventual winner GOLD DEAL to improve to his inside. Jockey Pattillo stated that during the preliminary he had assessed that in his opinion the inside running on the fence was inferior to his position slightly off the fence and as such he was satisfied to shift away at that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 2: ACUMEN BUILDING PROJECTS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

JAMES IS BLONDE (A. Taylor) jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

Approaching the 400m JAMES IS BLONDE shifted out and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of IT WASN’T ME (M. Cahill), causing both horses to become unbalanced for a short distance.

On return to scale T. Bell reported that MUSTOLA GOLD hung in under pressure in the home straight, causing him to be unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages.

S. Bogenhuber reported that PICK AND RUN hung out rounding the home turn.

ACTIVE ROCK (J. Hoopert) lost its off hind plate in running.

M. Cahill reported that IT WASN’T ME made an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of IT WASN’T ME revealed the horse to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate and to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer T. Thomas was advised that the gelding must undergo an endoscopic examination prior to its next start, with the results to be forwarded to stewards.

Race 3: LENSPRO BM85 H’CAP – 1800M

DIAGO (B. Richardson) raced wide in the early stages.

Apprentice L. Tarrant explained that he was disappointed with the performance of GALAXY KING in that the gelding took up a rearward position as he had been instructed, however he was obliged to ease GALAXY KING near the 600m in an endeavour to shift out around the heels of FLYING DYNAMITE (G. Killen) to ensure he was positioned on the outside of the field as trainer M. Mair had advised him that GALAXY KING finishes its races off better when outside the main body of the field. He added that this resulted in him having to increase the gelding’s pace quickly and this may not have been beneficial to the overall performance. Trainer M. Mair confirmed his disappointment and could offer no comments as to the performance and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days that may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

Stewards will interview trainer R. Pratt regarding DIAGO being left unattended following the event.

Race 4: BOOST JUICE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

MUSCLE AND MOTION (M. Hellyer), which was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, made contact with and damaged the inside running rail near the winning post. Following this, the decision was made to remove the tongue tie and permit the gelding to race without a tongue tie. When MUSCLE AND MOTION arrived at the barriers it underwent a veterinary inspection. Following this, the rider advised of his concerns with the tractability of MUSCLE AND MOTION. After a conversation with the veterinary surgeon, C. Johnson, who also advised of her concerns with the tractability of MUSCLE AND MOTION, and acting on this advice along with their own concerns, stewards declared the horse a late scratching at 2.45 pm. Trainer J. McLachlan will be interviewed regarding the manners of MUSCLE AND MOTION. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MUSCLE AND MOTION be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cent in the dollar for the Win #12
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #3

RUBAROSA (B. Richardson), which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of RUBAROSA found a minor laceration below the offside nostril.

PIKES PEAK (R. McMahon) and MISS MARBURG (T. Jeffries) were both slow to begin.

DUKE OF NORMANDY (R. Jamieson) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice A. Taylor (STALWART ROWA) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

Apprentice B. Richardson (RUBAROSA) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

Race 5: HOGS BREATH CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1200M

ALTAI WARRIOR (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.

ONE TO GO (A. Pattillo) raced wide for the majority of the event.

GENERAL JACKSON (L. Tarrant) hung out rounding the home turn.

T. Pattillo reported that in his opinion ONE TO GO was short in its action in the event and when pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination of ONE TO GO revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Hill will be interviewed in coming days.

The veterinary surgeon reported that MASHKOOR (G. Goold) bled from both nostrils. Trainer L. Treloar was advised that as this was the first occasion on which the gelding has bled, it will be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward. Stewards questioned Mr Treloar and stablehand Ms T. Paul as to whether Mr Treloar had knowledge of MASHKOOR bleeding and as such whether he had failed in his obligation to notify such occurrence at the first available opportunity. After taking evidence, stewards were not satisfied that Mr Treloar had become aware at the time that MASHKOOR had bled and took no further action.

Race 6: ULTIMATE ENTERTAINMENT CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

The blinkers were removed when HEBITDA (R. McMahon) became fractious in the enclosure. HEBITDA continued to be fractious and was reluctant to proceed to the barriers after being led on to the course proper. Due to the manners of HEBITDA, stewards acceded to a request from trainer D. Hansen to have the gelding race without blinkers. A warning was placed on HEBITDA’s manners.

The start of this race was further delayed when SPLENDENT CHOICE (T. Bell) which, after becoming fractious in the barriers, reared and injured T. Bell. SPLENDENT CHOICE was declared a late scratching at 3.56 pm. Connections will be advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of SPLENDENT CHOICE. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SPLENDENT CHOICE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

12 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
14 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
17 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
14 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7

PISMO BEACH (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with HEBITDA.

ARE TEE ESS (S. Fawke) and HARD NUT TO CRACK (B. Appo) were slow to begin.

HEBITDA raced wide throughout and when passing the 400m was bumped and forced wider when SHEEZA MYZZILE (V. Colgan) shifted out to secure clear running.

HEBITDA lost its off hind plate in running.

J. Byrne was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of HOLY SPRING. He stated that after travelling well throughout the race the gelding was disappointing in the home straight when placed under pressure and did not finish the race off well. Trainer G. Taylor advised that he was disappointed with the performance and would now consider the horse’s future. He undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days that may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

T. Bell was examined by the Club doctor following the event and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 7: MORAYFIELD SHOPPING CENTRE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed due to the extended delay in Race 6, and was further delayed when AUGUSTE (M. Cahill) got its off hind leg up on the barrier partition prior to the start.

RELAPSE (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.

After leaving the 400m MAIN STREET (T. Bell), after attempting to secure a run to the outside of SO DOMINANT (R. McMahon) and to the inside of ZENAWOMANN (G. Killen), was disappointed, resulting in the rider being obliged to take hold and shift back across the heels of SO DOMINANT. As a result, MAIN STREET lost ground and hampered CRACKERJET (R. Wiggins), which was following, causing that horse’s rider to take hold.

Approaching the 200m MAIN STREET again had to be steadied when racing between SO DOMINANT and RELAPSE, which shifted out under pressure.

Leaving the 200m AZZIMATO (V. Colgan) was tightened for room and had to be checked when attempting a run between RELAPSE and TAYSTAR (R. Jamieson), both of which shifted ground. B. El-Issa (RELAPSE) and apprentice R. Jamieson were both advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Race 8: IAGIST CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M

BEE PLUS (R. Wiggins), TECH’S GEM (A. Taylor) and RUBI OF THE DESERT (S. Lanigan) were slow to begin.

PICTURE IT (J. Byrne) overraced during the early and middle stages.

MAZARDI (J. Hoopert) and RUBI OF THE DESERT raced wide throughout.

BEE PLUS laid in from the 600m until entering the home straight.

Over the concluding stages BEE PLUS shied away from the winning post, resulting in its rider becoming awkward in the saddle and having to stop riding.

On return to scale apprentice G. Goold reported that he had not been instructed to lead on OVERRULE, however after beginning well he was of the view that he would have been caught wide so he allowed the horse to stride forward. He added that in doing so he had to use more of the horse than he would have liked and in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance, however he was still of the opinion that OVERRULE was disappointing in its finishing effort. Trainer C. Stott confirmed his disappointment in the performance and would consider giving the horse one more start over 1600m before considering the horse’s racing future.

B. El-Issa was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
