RACE 1. M J CLEANERS/STANTHORPE PAINTING SERVICES MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
RINGSFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer prior to the race due to it falling at Warwick the previous Saturday and was subsequently passed to race with no abnormalities found.
RINGSFIELD (A Merritt) jumped awkwardly and then shifted out throwing its head up and almost pulling up. RINGSFIELD then followed the field in a tailed off position. The mare was sent for a post-race veterinary inspection however it was reported that nothing was found to be amiss with her. Trainer M Kropp was advised that RINGSFIELD must contest an official barrier trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to future nomination.
WYLIE (B Stower) hung out from the 800m taking OAK FIRE (A Taylor) wider at the 600m.
RUMBELLINA (W O’Connell) raced greenly hanging out at the 700m.
BILLABONG BIRD (J Orman) shifted in over the concluding stages.
PUNK STAR (B Powell) hung in badly down the running.
RACE 2. K&A BUILDING QTIS CLASS 2 HCP 1000M
MONTO (B Stower) jumped out at the start.
CRAFTY’S LAST (F Elliot) was slow to jump and then shifted in down the home straight proving difficult to ride out.
GOLD CITY CROWN (W O’Connell) jumped awkwardly and then raced wide at the 700m.
Leaving the 200m IN MY FACE (S Fawke) shifted in and was steadied from the heels of FLAG’N’FURY (D McIntosh)
Jockey N Tomizawa was reprimanded for allowing BITTERSWEET to move in at the 700m causing GENERAL KINGSMAN (R Goltz) to ease and lose ground. BITTERSWEET hung out on the home turn taking GOLD CITY CROWN very wide. Jockey Tomizawa was also questioned regarding the poor performance of the market favorite BITTERSWEET. Jockey Tomizawa explained that his mount was resuming from a spell and from a wide draw raced wide for most of the race. He added that his mount then hung out on the home turn and did not run on strongly in the straight. Explanation noted.
RACE 3.COUNTRY CLUB HOTEL/LIQUOR LEGENDS CLASS B HCP 1200M
Jockey C Maund contacted the Stanthorpe race club Secretary advising that he would not be attending the meeting as he could not make the weight on his two mounts. Jockey Maund was replaced on BEYOND IMAGINATION by W O’Connell. Stewards will contact jockey Maund concerning this matter.
PRECIOUS DRAGON (B Stower) refused to enter the starting stalls and was withdrawn at 2-58pm. All monies invested on PRECIOUS DRAGON were refunded and the following deductions applied:
Winner UPTOWN ROCK 15c win 15c place
Second MANFRED THE MAN 13c place
No Third Dividend
Trainer T Sears was advised that PRECIOUS DRAGON would require a Barrier Certificate prior to racing again.
OPEN HEART (B Powell) jumped outwards hampering BEYOND IMAGINATION.
UPTOWN ROCK (J Orman) jumped outwards causing RUBI OF THE DESERT (A Taylor) to lose ground.
Jockey A Merritt was questioned as to the reason he did not take a run to the inside of BEYOND IMAGINATION in the straight. Jockey Merritt explained that he thought that BEYOND IMAGINATION was going to move in so he took the split second decision to go to the outside which proved to be the wrong option as BEYOND IMAGINATION moved outwards. Explanation noted.
RACE 4. CENTRAL MOTORS HOLDEN STANTHORPE CUP OPEN HCP 1200M
IMA JOKER (B Stower) broke through the barriers and travelled only a short distance before being returned to the start where a Veterinary inspection passed the gelding to start.
IMA JOKER shifted out at the 800m brushing KATIKA (D McIntosh) which raced wide throughout.
Jockey D McIntosh was fined $100 for striking KATIKA in a forehand manner 8 times before the 100m. Jockey McIntosh’s good record was taken into account when assessing penalty.
RACE 5 STANTHORPE ROCKS/E E MUIR &SONS PTY LTD CLASS 3 PLATE 1400M
Jockey C Maund was replaced on DEFY ALL ODDS by D McIntosh.
KESTHIN (N Tomizawa) which broke through the barriers was quickly returned to the start and passed to start by the Veterinarian.
GRAPPA (A Taylor) was slow to begin and moved out at the 1000m when eased from the heels of KESTHIN.
CYRANO (B Stower) raced widely throughout. Appr Stower was shown the patrol video.
Trainer C Schiavone was informed that a warning had been placed on DEVIL’S DASH which was very reluctant to proceed to the start.
DEVIL’S DASH rolled in at the 700M and the 500M causing DOBROS (J Orman) to be eased. Appr Fawke was directed to take more care in future.
