SPENT (T. Banks) was crowded for room at the start between MUSIC MEDIA (A. Fancourt) and PRIVZERO (R. Kerwin) which shifted in.
T. Banks, the rider of SPENT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the specifics being that leaving the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in, tightening MUSIC MEDIA in onto the running rail, resulting in that runner being severely checked and losing its rightful running. T. Banks licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 meetings, to commence at midnight 1 September and expire at midnight 13 September 2013.
BRADBURY’S STAR (D. McIntosh) and IN MY FACE (V. Bolozhinskyi) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 100m PRIVZERO shifted out abruptly when pressured with the whip and inconvenienced CHATZABIT (B. Powell), PRIVZERO then shifted in sharply when being corrected.
T. Banks stated that SPENT travelled well throughout, however when asked to quicken upon entering the home straight, his mount failed to sprint and was slightly disappointing in its performance.
Race 2: Landmark/Grainflow Class B Handicap 1200m
Stewards declared BUSH GEM a late withdrawal at 12.10 pm after trainer C. Smith confirmed that the mare had sustained injuries whilst being transported to the track and was unfit to race. C. Smith was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for BUSH GEM prior to racing again.
HURRICANE ROCK (V. Bolozhinskyi) shifted out at the start tightening FLAG ’N’ FURY (R. Payne) in onto TOURMALET (D. McIntosh) which became unbalanced, as a result TOURMALET and FLAG ‘N’ FURY both lost ground.
Leaving the 800m FLAG ‘N’ FURY shifted out and away from HURRICANE ROCK forcing KAMAKANI (A. Guillemin) wider on the track.
Approaching the 100m ETCHED IN GLASS (D. McMaster) shifted in under pressure resulting in the rider having to momentarily stop riding and straighten.
A post race veterinary examination of HURRICANE ROCK revealed the presence of blood in the off side nostril. Trainer M. Fernando will be advised that HURRICANE ROCK will be required to gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward before racing again.
Stewards questioned W. O’Connell with regards to the tactics adopted on FAD in the early stages and the overall performance of the mare. W. O’Connell stated that the intention was to ride FAD back in the field which was consistent with its normal racing pattern, however after beginning fairly, FAD lost ground shortly after the start and continued to lose ground in the early stages despite his urgings. He added that his mount was not comfortable on today’s track but did run home well from the 400m and his opinion would appreciate races over further distance. The explanation was noted.
Race 3: Talwood Store/Titan AG Talwood Cup Open Handicap 1200m
Correct weight was delayed to establish if IMA JOKER (N. Ogura) was afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from rider N. Ogura, the starter and viewing the official patrol films, it was established that as the start was effected, IMA JOKER put its head down resulting in the gelding being slow to begin and losing ground. IMA JOKER was therefore declared a starter and correct weight was declared on the judges pacing’s.
LORD LION HEART (A. Fancourt) laid in under pressure leaving the 200m resulting in the rider having to stop riding for a short distance when straightening her mount.
A post race veterinary examination of LORD LION HEART, revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the off fore tendon and was lame. Trainer D. Baker will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for LORD LION HEART before racing again.
Race 4: Evolution Farming/Audrey Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400m
IDLE MINDS (D. McIntosh) was slow into stride.
DANDY KAT (V. Bolozhinskyi) raced wide throughout.
Near the 800m SNOW’S A LADY (A. Fancourt) laid out and was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of SANDY VIEW (W. O’Connell).
Jockey B. Powell was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of the whip on horses out of contention.
Stewards questioned apprentice A. Fancourt, the rider of SNOW’S A LADY, regarding the reason for the horse losing ground leaving the 800m until approaching the 400m. A. Fancourt stated that her mount travelled well in the early stages however near the 800m lost ground when awkwardly placed on the heels of SANDY VIEW. She added that SNOW’S A LADY dropped the bit shortly after this incident and lost some ground despite her efforts to improve. She further added that the horse responded to her riding approaching the home turn and finished the race off well and in her opinion would be better suited to races over further distance. Stewards noted the explanation.
A post race veterinary examination of SANDY VIEW revealed the mare had bled from both nostrils. Trainer K. Waller was advised that as this was the first occasion in which SANDY VIEW had bled, it would now incur a mandatory 3 month bar from racing and would be required to gallop over 1000m to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
Race 5: B&R Webster/Newinga Estates QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m
Stewards declared GLENROCK VICKI a late withdrawal at 12.10 pm after trainer S. Watkins advised that the mare had injured itself whilst being transported to the track and was unfit to race. S. Watkins was advised that she must produce a veterinary clearance for GLENROCK VICKI prior to racing again.
The start of this race was delayed after TOM’S BREAK (L. Tilley) which became fractious during the preliminary, threw itself off balance and fell dislodging the rider and then cantered some distance before being captured. TOM’S BREAK was declared a late withdrawal at 4.28 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the gelding was found to be lame in the hind quarters.
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TOM’S BREAK be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1.35 pm:
0 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #9
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6
Trainer S. McEwan was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of TOM’S BREAK and that a veterinary clearance would be required for the gelding prior to racing again.
Correct weight was delayed to allow D. McIntosh the rider of CHIVAS ON ICE to view the patrol footage to establish if there were grounds to protest against the winner. After viewing the available footage, D. McIntosh did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.
Leaving the 1100m INSOLENT (T. Banks) appeared to shy at a shadow on the track and shifted out abruptly forcing CHIVAS ON ICE (D. McIntosh), BLUGIRL (D. McMaster) and LIKE LALA (W. O’Connell) wider on the track.
Leaving the 800m BLUGIRL laid out forcing LIKE LALA and LE BONX CHONX (R. Payne) wider on the track, both runners then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
INSOLENT laid out in the home straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of BETA THAN ALPHA, rider A. Fancourt stated her mount could not muster any speed after the start and when placed under pressure commenced to climb in its action and raced ungenerously and subsequently raced some distance away at the tail of the field. In light of the performance, stewards advised trainer P. Sexton that BETA THAN ALPHA had been uncompetitive throughout and therefore would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. P. Sexton was reminded of his obligations under AR117(3) that in future he must obtain permission from the stewards if he wishes to remove from the saddling paddock a horse that has raced, within 30 minutes after the finish of such race.
