Supplementary Reports

Jockey Rebecca Kerwin contacted Stewards to advise she was unable to forfil her riding engagements at this meeting due to personal reasons. Jockey changes were made as per Stewards Summary.

Race 1:Top X Landmark/Bill Kehl Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1000m-
1st: Sistabella 2nd: Calypso Magic 3rd: Sir Iger 4th: Footrot Flats

Prior to the commencement of Race 1, Mr. Mark Hutton the Trainer of Critter (Race 1) sought permission from Stewards for his horse’s rider Ms. L. McCoy to mount that horse and go out onto the track as soon as practical after the other runners had left the mounting yard enroute to the barriers. His explanation for this request was noted and accepted by Stewards and permission was granted.

SIR IGER’S (App. K.Gates) allocated barrier was slow to open causing that runner to loose some ground at the start.

SEA STRAIGHT (I. Coombes) was slow to begin.

FOOTROT FLATS (S. Apthorpe) was slow into stride.

After travelling 50m, MINTO’S DREAM (App. C. Pye) while being restrained, threw its head in the air and lost ground. MINTO’S DREAM then continued to yield ground and finished the race a considerable distance from the main body of the field.

Approaching the 800m, SIR IGER was hanging out and was forced to be eased off the heels of FITTIPA (J. McKinnon) who over raced in the early stages of this event. At the same point, FITTIPA was forced to be eased off the heels of DOMINEERING (S. McGovern) whilst overracing.

CALYPSO MAGIC (App. R. Ride), SEA STRAIGHT and FOOTROT FLATS were the widest runners shortly after entering the home straight.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards were approached by Apprentice C Pye who made application for her mount MINTO’S DREAM to be declared a non runner. Her application was based upon her opinion that MINTO’S DREAM had been denied a fair start. After taking submissions from Apprentice C. Pye and Trainer Mr. Neil Boyle it was noted that whilst the offside barrier gate did bounce back and make contact with MINTO’S DREAM’S shoulder, Stewards could not be satisfied that this incident had a material effect on MINTO’S DREAM’S finishing position bearing in mind the considerable margin it was beaten.

Race 2:Taroom Pharmacy/Owen Brodie Memorial Class B Handicap 1000m-
1st: Spartaneous 2nd: Peppi Le Paw 3rd: Alphonse 4th: Super Samaurai

The barriers were tested several occasions prior to this event and the starter reported all barriers were operational.

MI KERIDA (App. K. Gates) blundered on jumping.

SUPER SAMAURAI (J. McKinnon) and TATYOON (D. Rewald) were both slow to begin.

NINEDAYFORTNIGHT ( L. McCoy) raced wide throughout.

Jockey Ms. L. McCoy reported to Stewards her mount NINEDAYFORTNIGHT hung out for the majority of the event.

Apprentice R. Ride reported to Stewards that her mount PEPPI LE PAW was tightened for room shortly after the start between SUPER SAMAURAI (J McKinnon) and ALPHONSE (J Oakes) which shifted out. Apprentice Ride also reported that PEPPI LE PAW hung out for the remainder of the event.

Stewards questioned Trainer Mr. G. Teal in relation to the improved performance of SPARTANEOUS. Mr. Teal stated that the horse raced better 1st up after a spell which on this occasion was just over 3 months. He further stated the horse had been working very well in preparation for today’s event and expected a forward showing from the horse. Stewards noted Mr. Teal’s comments.

Race 3: Utopia Stock Transport/ Bill Joynson Memorial Class 2 Handicap 1200m-
1st: Blackgold 2nd: Jett 3rd Forward Miss 4th: Red Hot Briefs

BLACKGOLD ( I.Coombes) was held up approaching the home turn and then shifted wider on the home turn.

JETT (D. Rewald) hung out on the home turn.

Jockey J Oakes the rider of ASTRALON reported to Stewards the horse’s poor performance could be attributed to the horse hanging out for the duration of the event. In his opinion the reverse way of going at this track may have also contributed to the horses disappointing performance. As a result of the mare’s continuance to hang out in the home straight, J Oakes reported he was unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages of this event. Jockey Oakes further stated to Stewards he reported his observations and the horses’ performance to Trainer Mr. Ben Waldron.

Correct weight was delayed to enable Jockey D.Rewald and Apprentice R. Ride to view the photo finish. Both riders were satisfied with the photo finish, the Judge’s placing’s and correct weight was declared.

Race 4:Leichhardt Hotel/ Bob Scott Memorial Open Handicap 1400m-.
1st: Frisco Lights 2nd: Chief Chargingbear 3rd: Star of Minto 4th: Sobeit

BAHA (App S. Egan) raced wide throughout.

Prior to declaring Correct weight Jockey D. Rewald the rider of GESINK applied to Stewards to have his mount declared a non runner due to the slow opening of his allocated barrier which in his opinion denied his runner a fair start. Stewards after considering D. Rewald’s application and agreed that the barrier was slow to open and did in the opinion of stewards deny GESINK a full opportunity to place in this event. Gesink was therefore, declared a non runner with the following deductions applying:

1st: 24c win and 17c place.
2nd: 21c.
3rd: 18c.

Race 5:Taroom Welding/Des Johnson Memorial Class 4 Handicap 1400m.
1st: Overboard 2nd: Winger In 3rd: Joe Blow 4th: Go On Greg

Barriers were tested on a number of occasions by Starter.

FIRST OPTION (J. Oakes) was slowly into stride.

JOE BLOW (J. McKinnon) hung out in the early and middle stages of this event.

On returning to scale Jockey J. McKinnon the rider of JOE BLOW advised Stewards the gelding in his opinion did feel the 65 kilograms weight allocated to his mount particularly over the final stages which resulted in the horse tiring over the final 200 metres of the event.
