SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT- Rockhampton Thursday 12th September, 2013

Trainer T .Cook reported that COLLECTOR had been treated by a chiropractor following its engagement on this day.

Trainer D. Stafford reported that SPEEDSKATER had bruising to its off side eye after competing on this day.

Race 1: Fitzpatrick Constructions BM 65 Handicap (Div 1)- 1075 metres
1st – SECRET SCENE 2nd – CONJUGAL RIGHTS 3rd – TEDIKA 4th- FAIR EXPECTATION

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Apprentice K Gates made application for TOP MESSIAH to be declared a non-runner when denied a fair start. After taking evidence from App Gates, Trainer J. Poots and Starter J. Devine and B. Lisle, who was attending TOP MESSIAH, Stewards declared the gelding a non-runner on the grounds that when the start was effected the gelding’s head was held over the barrier partition by the attendant and not released when the start was effected, which resulting in the gelding being denied a fair start.

On the declaration of correct weight, all monies invested on TOP MESSIAH were ordered to be refunded and all winning bets to be paid less the following deductions;

MASTER GREIG (D. Evans) was slow to begin.

Near the 800 metres, BUILT TOUGH (App R. Payne) hung out and Apprentice Payne reported that once able to obtain a position to the outside of the field, the gelding balanced up well.

MASTER GREIG lay out slightly when racing around the home turn.

Jockey T. O’Hara reported that BONNY THE VIPER had raced wide throughout the race and had not handled the track. It was reported that the mare had lost its near fore and off hind plates.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Evans regarding his riding of MASTER GRIEG over the concluding stages. Jockey Evans explained while he had pressured the gelding in the early stages of the straight, the gelding was not responding to his riding and also that approaching the winning post, FAIR EXPECTATION had (D. Hayse) shifted in slightly.

Race 2: Fitzpatrick Constructions BM 65 Handicap (Div 2) - 1075 metres
1st – PERMISSION GRANTED 2nd –SINDIBAD 3rd – DAMALO 4th – RISHONA

FOR LOVE ALONE (C. Pye) began a little awkwardly.

DAMALO (App K Gates) and FLYING INDY (App A Kitson) were slow to begin.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey C. Pye regarding the performance of FOR LOVE ALONE and her riding of the gelding over the concluding stages.
Jockey Pye stated the gelding had hung out across the heels of KISS THE GROOM (S. McGovern) and REV THE CHEV (D. Hayse) near the 800 metres and raced wide for the remainder of the race. Jockey Pye further stated that she pressured the gelding along approaching the home turn, however it had changed strides on a number of occasions and had felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will seek a follow-up report from Trainer J O’Sing.

Race 3: KJ & HJ Lynch Concrete/ Ray White Bileola Maiden Plate - 1200 metres
1st – CENTREFOLD BABE 2nd – HAYYLER’S HELL 3rd – TE AROHA 4th – BLOOMSDAY

Following weighing out for this race, a power outage occurred on the course.

At the start, PANTHER (D. Evans) began awkwardly and jumped in the air.

VIV’S CHARM (E. Heinemann) jumped out onto PENDARIE (T. O’Hara).

RHAEGARS FIRE (C. Pye) jumped out onto TE AROHA (S. McGovern) with both runners losing some ground.

TE AROHA hung out near the 900 metres and raced wide from the 800 metres.

BLOOMSDAY (J. Stephens) and BELLA BEIJING (A. Coome) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200 metres, PANTHER was held up on the heels of VIV’S CHARM which rolled in and was steadied. Near the 100 metres, PANTHER was further inconvenienced when VIV’S CHARM rolled in again.

When questioned regarding the performance of PANTHER, Jockey D Evans stated the gelding was not comfortable with the addition of a cross over noseband and after beginning poorly, had raced back in the field and failed to travel well throughout. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the available photo finish image and confirmed the placings.

Due to the power failure, the scales used for weighing out were not operational. Acting under ARR 142, as all riders had weighed out correctly and Stewards were of the opinion that all runners had carried the allotted weight, correct weight was declared.

Race 4: Thinkwater Callide Valley Class 1 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – ME FAST TOO 2nd – CYCLONE STEVE 3rd – DON’T TELL ALI 4th – MURRAMARANG

In the absence of on-course power, the scales were made operational prior to weighing out. This race was delayed to allow for alternative power to be made available to run water pumps for runners following the race, given the weather conditions.

The photo finish equipment was run on an alternative power supply; however a video camera was used as support.

ME FAST TOO (L. Dillon) jumped in onto CYCLONE STEVE (D. Gill).

MACHO CAT (A. Coome) and DON’T TELL ALI (S. McGovern) were slow to begin.

LORD LUGZEE (App R Payne) raced wide throughout.

Near the 150 metres, MURRAMARANG (App K Gates) was held up on the heels of REENA.

Jockey C. Pye reported that EIGHT CARAT GIRL may have been in season as the mare had failed to concentrate on racing and had raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

Race 5: Commercial Hotel Class B Handicap- 1400 metres
1st – DANE FIRE 2nd – NORDIC JET 3rd – BLOOMSDAY 4th – THE PANTZ

After competing in Race 3, BLOOMSDAY underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to race.

THE PANTZ (S McGovern) jumped out onto NORDIC JET (D. Evans) which had jumped awkwardly.

VENNOM (C. Pye) jumped in onto PLATINUM PEAKS (D. Gill) and lost ground.

VENNOM and SANSIRA (D. Hayse) raced wide throughout.

From near the 1000 metres, PLATINUM PEAKS was inclined to hang out for the remainder of the race.

Race 6: Nobbs Family Thangool Cup Handicap- 1600 metres
1st – SLIM HENRY 2nd – CHINRUB 3rd – DIRECT DEBIT 4th – POPNAE

CRAIGLEA CONVICT (L. Dillon) and TITANIUM ROCK (M. Barnham) were slow into stride.

SLIM HENRY (D. Hayse) and DIRECT DEBIT (D. Evans) pulled hard in the early stages.

TITANIUM ROCK improved wide from near the 800 metres.
