RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
As L Nelson was to be overweight, C Reith was substituted as the rider of VINDICATED. Given L Nelson's long history of weight related offences, Stewards ruled that he may not take rides at a provincial meeting for a period of not less than 6 months, were upon the Stewards will reassess his record at that time. SAINTLY WALK jumped outwards at the start making contact with ENSIGN. COWBOY BILL also began awkwardly and raced ungenerously for a short distance. In the early stages of the straight NO ILLUSION was held up when inclined to shift back in behind ENSIGN. GD Kliese the rider of the third placegetter FUME was cautioned for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line at least in a hands and heels fashion.
RACE 2 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 8 STARTERS
As T Phillips was to be overweight, C Whiteley was substituted as the rider of MARTINGALE. T Phillips was fined the sum of $100. BELYANDO blundered at the start. From the 600 metres until entering the straight ALLEZ SLEW was held up behind CANADIAN BOY and was unable to improve. Passing the 200 metres MARTINGALE was hampered for room when tightened between ALLEZ SLEW which shifted out slightly under pressure and HARPOON which shifted in slightly. Whilst no direct action was taken, both N Evans (HARPOON) and D Crossland (ALLEZ SLEW) were reminded of their responsibilities to keep their mount on it's true course.
RACE 3 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 15 STARTERS
After beginning awkwardly CANADIAN TIME blundered badly and shifted in inconveniencing NATIVE SWORD. At the 1000 metres COPPER TRICKS had to be steadied off the heels of BRITTANY MAY which shifted in while racing greenly. C Reith the rider of ANCIENT WARRIOR was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding in that near the 850 metres he allowed his mount to shift in at a stage when not clear of CLAIMED causing that horse to be severely checked. C Reith was suspended from riding in races for a period to be covered by 5 SEQRA TAB meetings. The penalty is to commence at midnight 2/8/00 with the penalty to expire at midnight 10/8/00. In accessing penalty took into account C Reith's good race record and also the fact that he only recently resumed from a lengthy period out of the saddle due to a race related injury. COPPER TRICKS which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.
RACE 4 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 12 STARTERS
PERSHING was very slow to begin. Soon after the start BRUNE GLACE shifted out hampering CAUTIOUS SPIRIT (NZ) and FAST FORTUNE. Passing the 700 metres BROTHER'S MATE lost ground when the gelding hung out onto the heels of CITIGUY. PEGUNNY STAR shifted out under pressure over the final 200 metres.
RACE 5 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
After being loaded RUBIQUE ROYALE reared over backwards and became cast. ROCKET TYCOON which was drawn in the adjoining stall also became fractious. Acting on the advice of the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, RUBIQUE ROYALE was withdrawn at 3:03 p.m. ROCKET TYCOON was passed fit to start. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on RUBIQUE ROYALE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of .04c in the $ of the face value of both Win and Place bets applicable. Trainer I Robertson was advised that RUBIQUE ROYALE must pass 2 further barrier tests prior to it's next race start. After passing the winning post ROCKET TYCOON veered to the outside and crashed through the outside running rail dislodging it's rider N Evans who escaped any apparent injuries. Trainer M Curry was interviewed regarding ROCKET TYCOON'S racing manners and heard that the gelding had in recent times developed a trait of running off the track in track work. As the Stewards considered ROCKET TYCOON presents a unacceptable risk to it's rider, the horses nomination will be refused herewith.
