RACE 2 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 8 STARTERS
DUSTY CHIEF and VINDICATED were slow to begin. At the 600 metres HOPE FLOATS was steadied off the heels of MAGNETIZED. After passing the 200 metre mark GRAND FLOWER shifted out when being ridden hard and DUSTY CHIEF which was trailing had to alter course as a consequence.

RACE 3 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 8 STARTERS
HEELS OF FORTUNE was a late scratching at 2:47 p.m. when the mare refused to be loaded into the Barriers. Bookmakers were ordered to draw a line in their ledger and deductions of .4c Win and .4c Place on all bets made above the line were imposed. Trainer G Sewell was advised that he would be required to obtain a Barrier Test Certificate for HEELS OF FORTUNE before that mare raced again. DODGEMS blundered badly when the gates opened and lost ground.

RACE 4 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 16 STARTERS
CONGO POWER was difficult to load and struck itself when being loaded into the Barriers. CONGO POWER was a late scratching at 3:37 p.m. by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. Trainer J Maconachie was advised that a warning had been issued concerning CONGO POWER'S barrier manners. Bookmakers were ordered to draw a line on their ledgers. ROSE OF JUGAH reared and became entangled in an adjoining Barrier. JOSE OF JUGAH was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. When reloaded into the Barriers, ROSE OF JUGAH again reared over backwards and was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 3:40 p.m.. Bookmakers were ordered to draw a second line on their ledgers. At the announcement of correct weight Stewards ruled deductions of .28c Win and .24c Place on all bets made above the first line in betting and .21c Win and 17c Place on all bets made between the first and second line. All monies on CONGO POWER and ROSE OF JUGAH were ordered to be refunded. Trainer R Ryder was advised that as ROSE OF JUGAH had offended previously, Stewards would require the horse to pass 2 Barrier tests before being permitted to race again. ARGYLE KNIGHT was slow to begin. SECRET BUSINESS and UNDERCOVER PRINCE were both checked at the start, when tightened for room between ALLEZ SLEW and VELOCIDAD which was taken out by OUR SMOOTH RED. Making the first turn VELOCIDAD shifted out off the heels of OUR SMOOTH RED which resulted in HIS LORDSHIP being tightened for room between VELOCIDAD and ARGOLD. At an Inquiry it was established that OUR SMOOTH RED had shifted out marginally making the first turn to allow room for BURRADOO PRINCE which was racing to it's inside. As a consequence BURRADOO PRINCE had to be steadied and FUTURE ROAD which was trailing was checked off the heels of BURRADOO PRINCE. At the 250 metre mark SEARCHLIGHT shifted out to improve hampering ARGYLE KNIGHT. A Cowie (SEARCHLIGHT) was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear.
