Leaving the 400 metres BICARB (F. Edwards) shifted out across the heels of RECORD TIME and had to be steadied.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of RECORD TIME., Jockey D Evans was unable to offer any explanation other than to explain that the Gedling had never travelled comfortably throughout the event and in his opinion, may not have handled the Townsville circuit.

A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER NATIVE revealed that the gelding had sustained a slight injury to the tendon of the right hind leg.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of PALARCHI (App. L. Abbott), trainer Mr E. Sewell explained that the gelding was able to obtain a comfortable lead in today’s event and ensure that the pace was genuine, this was in contrast to its most recent starts when PALARCHI had not been able to sprint when the pace quickened over the latter stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of NADZAB DRIVE which was retired from the event revealed that the gelding had bowed its off hind tendon.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
