GENERAL:

Apprentice R. Plumb was reprimanded for failing to present his winning rides book.

Stewards inquired into a report by Jockey P. Cullen that when returning to the enclosure following Race 2 he had been subjected to abusive remarks and a threat by licensed stablehand Mr A. Cullen. During the course of the inquiry evidence was taken from Jockey P. Cullen, Mr A. Cullen, Jockey M. Usher and Jockey W. Cullen. After considering all of the evidence stewards determined that there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations made by Jockey P. Cullen and decided to take no further action.

Race 1: Goodyear Tyres Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres
1st - SISTER CATHERINE 2nd - ENZEEL 3rd - SUDDEN STRIKE 4th - SILVER NATIVE

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow riders D. Crossland (ENZEEL), P. Cullen (SISTER CATHERINE) and F. Edwards (SUDDEN STRIKE) to view the official video films. Subsequently stewards considered an objection lodged by D. Crossland, the rider of ENZEEL which finished second, against SISTER CATHERINE (P. Cullen) being declared the winner. After taking evidence from the riders and connection involved and viewing the official films stewards found that over the concluding stages SISTER CATHERINE shifted in and inconvenienced ENZEEL, which in turn shifted in slightly and hampered SUDDEN STRIKE (F. Edwards). Stewards were of the opinion that had it not been for the interference suffered, ENZEEL would have finished in front of SISTER CATHERINE. In the circumstances they upheld the objection and amended the placings to read: 1st ENZEEL; 2nd SISTER CATHERINE; 3rd SUDDEN STRIKE. At a subsequent inquiry P. Cullen was advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.

At the start SUDDEN STRIKE (F. Edwards) shifted in and bumped BLITZ (D. Green).

On jumping ENZEEL (D. Crossland) was tightened for room between TRICKY DICKY (G. Cullen), which shifted out slightly, and SISTER CATHERINE (P. Cullen), which shifted in.

Near the 350 metres ENZEEL (D. Crossland) initially moved out and when shifted in to improve clipped the heels of TRICKY DICKY (G. Cullen).

Race 2: Rentco Open Handicap - 1630 metres
1st -MEDOWIE EMPEROR 2nd - SPURIOUS 3rd - PAINTED UP 4th - ROADSPY

Trainer Ms M. Young was fined $50 under L. R. 70(1) for failing to declare W. Cullen as the rider of MEDOWIE EMPEROR by the prescribed time.

In the early stages MEDOWIE EMPEROR (W. Cullen) laid out.

Near the 1400 metres MEDOWIE EMPEROR (W. Cullen) shifted out abruptly.

In the early and middle stages REVOLVE AROUND HIM (D. Green) overraced and approaching the 400 metres brushed the running rail.

Leaving the 1400 metres PLUMS (Apprentice R. Plumb) hung out.

Near the 200 metres PLUMS (Apprentice R. Plumb) shifted out and hampered REVOLVE AROUND HIM (D. Green).

Race 3: Dennis Payne Transport Class 2 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - CAVALIER APPROACH 2nd - SUCROSE 3rd - MY SALADDIN 4th - OUR McGINTY

When D. Lloyd was to be overweight G. Cullen was substituted as the rider of RUPTURED.

GALAXY FIGHTER (M. Cullen) was slow to begin.

In the middle stages SUCROSE ) A. Cox laid out.

Race 4: Mendi Constructions Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - SILVER WISHES 2nd - STRUTTER’S BALL 3rd - LADY CLANG/ SUBMERSIBLE (DH)

SHE’S A SENSATION (F. Edwards) began awkwardly and then hung out for the remainder of the event.

In the early stages STRUTTER’S BALL (G. Cullen) overraced and then near the 600 metres shifted out abruptly.

At the 400 metres MACKEELIE (W. Cullen), which was racing one off the fence, shifted in slightly. At the same time STEEL QUEEN (I. Toward) shifted out around the heels of MACKEELIE to improve and in doing so hampered WANDARRIE FLYER (M. Elliott). I. Toward was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was entirely responsible for the incident and was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to restrain his mount directly back.

Race 5: Trailer Sales NQ Pallarenda Stakes QTIS 2-year-old Maiden Plate - 1000 metres
1st - KELVAIN 2nd - SEANOFEAR 3rd - PYRAMID ASSASSIN 4th - EMMATAY LANE

MISS TURF TWISTER (D. Armstrong) shifted out at the start.

Shortly after leaving the barriers STAY TRUE (D. Lloyd) shifted out abruptly.

At about the 500 metres EMMATY LANE (P. Cullen) was shifted out to improve, overreacted and shifted out abruptly and bumped PYRAMID ASSASSIN (D. Green). P. Cullen was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear of other runners before shifting ground.

Near the 600 metres LOVABLE LASS (Apprentice R. Plumb), which had been slow to begin, shifted out whilst hanging badly and bumped STAY TRUE (D. Lloyd), which clipped the heels of LOVABLE LASS and dipped. LOVABLE LASS continued to hang out throughout the event. Trainer Mr F. Wieland was advised that he must correct the waywardness of LOVABLE LASS prior to the filly being permitted to race again.

Approaching the 200 metres EYE MAX (M. Usher) was disappointed for clear running and was eased away from the heels of EMMATAY JANE (P. Cullen).

At about the 200 metres IN OUR OPINION (F. Edwards) was unable to obtain clear running and had to be eased to avoid the heels of KELVAIN (J. Stopps). As a
consequence, MISS TURF TWISTER (D. Armstrong), which was racing behind IN OUR OPINION, had to be restrained to avoid that horse’s heels and was shifted out to obtain clear running, resulting in EYE MAX (M. Usher) shying out away from MISS TURF TWISTER.

A post-race veterinary examination of SUPERSUB, which weakened badly over the concluding stages, revealed that the colt was showing signs of distress.

Race 6: Mendi Bulk Haulage Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - CAPTAIN WHELAND 2nd - PRINCE OF STEEL 3rd - SAMURAI SPIRIT 4th - MIAMI ICE

PRINCE OF STEEL (D. Green) was slow to begin.

On jumping SPIRIT OF PLATANOS (A. Cox) shifted in and bumped KAREEM (M. Elliott).

Shortly after the start CAPTAIN WHELAND (D. Crossland) shifted in and hampered SPIRIT OF PLATANOS (A. Cox), which was taken in onto FLYING BEAUTY (J. Stopps), which was checked and shifted out, making contact with KAREEM (M. Elliott), which was racing ungenerously and had to be restrained.

For a short distance near the 500 metres FLYING BEAUTY (J. Stopps) raced ungenerously.

Following the race Jockey M. Elliott reported that in the straight he was of the opinion that KAREEM was sore and therefore he did not ride the gelding out to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination of KAREEM revealed that the gelding was making a loud upper respiratory noise. Stewards advised trainer Mr J. Robbins that KAREEM would not be permitted to race again until a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an endoscopic examination was provided.

Race 7: Dennis Payne Transport Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - DALLOSTA 2nd - DARK INTENT 3rd - POUND FOR POUND 4th - DOSH FOR YOSH

Trainer Mr T. Ryan was reprimanded under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare M. Elliott as the rider of MOSSY OAK by the prescribed time.

After being placed in the barriers HALO TO HEAVEN (W. Cullen) got down in the stall, was quickly released from the front of the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its rightful place in the field. The veterinary surgeon reported that whilst the horse was being examined it was eating grass, was not agitated or showing any signs of injury.

On jumping WINDMAN (W. Kenning) shifted in and brushed STARDOO (G. Cullen).

At the start DALLOSTA (D. Green) and DARK INTENT (P. Cullen) came together.

LADY LATAR (Apprentice R. Plumb) and PLACID BOY (I. Toward) brushed on jumping.

LEND ME A DIME (F. Edwards) shifted in slightly at the start.

HOBSON’S CHOICE (J. Stopps) was obliged to race wide in the early stages and near the 500 metres J. Stopps elected to shift his mount inwards to save ground.

Approaching the 800 metres HALO TO HEAVEN (W. Cullen) was steadied to avoid the heels of LADY LATAR (Apprentice R. Plumb), which slowed the pace after reaching the lead. HALO TO HEAVEN shifted out onto PLACID BOY (I. Toward), which was taken out onto LEND ME A DIME (F. Edwards), which had to be eased.

In the straight HALO TO HEAVEN (W. Cullen) was inclined to shift out under pressure, necessitating its rider having to stop riding and straighten.

On pulling up D. Green was dislodged from DALLOSTA. Acting under A.R. 142 stewards declared correct weight, acknowledging that due to injury D. Green was unable to weigh in. D. Green was relieved from fulfilling his further engagement. At a subsequent inquiry trainer Mr M. Adornetto was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to DALLOSTA being permitted to race again and that he must take all necessary measures to rectify the horse’s manners.

Race 8: Rentco Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - ADABOY 2nd - DESERT STAR 3rd - PAWIE/VICTORY BEAU

Trainer Mr F. Wieland was reprimanded for failing to declare D. Green as the rider of MR JACOBS by the prescribed time (L.R. 70(1)).

As D. Green was indisposed, D. Armstrong was substituted as the rider of MR JACOBS.

When the gates opened TO PLEASE A LADY (G. Kliese) stood flat-footed and lost ground.

On jumping MISTER BRUMBY (Apprentice T. Bannon) shifted in onto BELONG TO YOU (W. Kenning), which was taken in onto THE TROUBLE IS (D. Lloyd) and WHAT’S TO COME (J. Felix). WHAT’S TO COME was in turn taken in onto MR JACOBS (D. Armstrong). At the same time AULD FRIEND (Apprentice R. Plumb) shifted out and severely inconvenienced.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
