Race 1: - Like Us On Facebook Maiden Plate – 1200 metres
1st – SUNSHINE LAD 2nd – STAR SPRAY 3rd – WOODPARK ROAD 4th – FIDDY GEE

Rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight RUNABOUT (J. Felix) hung out and as a result Jockey J. Felix was unable to fully test the gelding over the concluding stages.

Stewards questioned Jockey F. Edwards, the rider of WOODPARK ROAD, and Jockey I. Toward, the rider of FILLE DE LA VILLE, in relation to the riding of their respective mounts in the early and middle stages, whereby both runners set a strong tempo and raced a considerable distance in front of the remainder of the field. Both riders reported that their mounts obtained a forward position, as per their customary racing pattern, however they commenced to race very keenly in the middle stages of the event and despite their endeavours neither runner would settle sufficiently to enable their riders to set a more moderate pace. Jockey Toward added that FILLE DE LA VILLE felt awkward in its action rounding the home turn and weakened in the home straight. Jockey Edwards noted that today WOODPARK ROAD was having only its fourth start and as such would derive benefit from today’s race experience. The explanations were noted.

Near the 100 metres LITTLE ELLIOT (J. Stanley) improved onto the heels of RUNABOUT (J. Felix) and was forced to shift out in an endeavour to improve.

Race 2: - Last Chance to Join the TTC 100 Club Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1400 Metres
1st – SURE DIVERSION 2nd - HELIOPOLIS 3rd – MOB RULE 4th – TAT ZEPHYR

On returning to scale Jockey I. Toward reported that VANTABULOUS travelled well during the event and was able to obtain the lead relatively easily. Jockey Toward added that when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing.

On returning to scale Jockey W. D’Avila reported to stewards that in his opinion TAT ZEPHYR failed to run on as expected in the home straight, which he attributed to the heavy impost of 60.5 kg, nevertheless he was not entirely disappointed with today’s performance.

Jockey I. Toward pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137(b) in that he failed to ride VANTABULOUS, which finished fifth, right to the end of the race. Jockey Toward was fined $300.

Jockey A. Coome pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted SURE DIVERSION to shift in leaving insufficient racing room for MOB RULE (M. Elliott) and APACHE PUP (App. E. Ljung), resulting in tightening of those runners and in App. Ljung having to check her mount and lose ground. SAFARI (S. Pawsey), which was following also had to be checked and blundered. After taking evidence from the parties involved, and hearing further submissions by Jockey Coome, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Jockey Coome was entirely responsible for the incident and according they were unable to sustain the charge.

Trainer E. Sewell informed stewards that the off hind leg of MOB RULE (M. Elliott) had been galloped on in running.

Race 3: - Bragg & Associates Pty Ltd QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SIMON BON ROCKET 2nd – TALK TOUGH 3rd – ROCKET BILLY REBEL 4th – SEVEN SAGAS

The start was delayed when STANDFORD (J. Stopps) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

At the start ROCKET BILLY REBEL (M. Elliott) jumped inwards and made very heavy contact with MORE THAN CHARLIE (G. Kliese).

STANDFORD (J. Stopps) was slow to begin and then hung out for the majority of the event.

In the early stages of the event BINCENTA (I. Toward) raced keenly.

ROSSCO THE HUNTER (App. E. Ljung) shifted in when placed under pressure with the whip in the early part of the home straight.

On returning to scale Jockey J. P. Stanley reported that SEVEN SAGAS raced greenly during the event.

Race 4: – Opteon Property North Queensland Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – LOVELY WITCH 2nd – SNOW EMPRESS 3rd – RATTLER’S LAD 4th – NAIL ‘EM

MASTER ELLIOT (J. Stopps) and LEGLESIA (F. Edwards) made contact on jumping.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for Jockey J. Stopps being dislodged from MASTER ELLIOT near the 500 metres. In the incident HEART OF STRENGTH (A. Coome), MISS BRAVEHEART (T. Bannon) and EPIC CAMEL (M. Elliott) were inconvenienced and lost ground. After taking evidence from all riders engaged in the event, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.

A post-race veterinary examination of NAIL ‘EM (J. P. Stanley) revealed that the horse had sustained abrasions on its hocks.

Race 5: – Macca’s Class 3 Plate – 1200 metres
1st – SURAH SURAH 2nd – CHEW THE FAT 3rd – SEEYASOON 4th – SOLIDIFY

After arriving on course HELP ME RHONDA struck its head in the tie-up stalls. The filly was
examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and, acting on his advice that the filly was unfit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of HELP ME RHONDA at 1.40 p.m.

As the course ambulance was required to take Jockey J. Stopps to hospital for observation, following a fall in Race 4, the start was rescheduled to 4.03 p.m.

SEEYASOON (M. Elliott) began awkwardly.

In the home straight SURAH SURAH (App. E. Ljung) laid out under pressure.

Race 6: – Waltlec Electrical Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – BALUSTRADE 2nd – CANHEDANCE 3rd – STEEL DRAGON 4th – KNUTE

CASH ATTACK (G. Cullen) was slow to begin and failed to muster early speed.

After being crossed by PASSIN’ THRU (A. Coome) leaving the 1000 metres CANHEDANCE (G. Kliese) commenced to over-race and as a result was forced to shift out to avoid the heels of PASSIN’ THRU. As a result WANDERING STAR (F. Edwards) and FANGLES (J. P. Stanley) were taken wider on the track. FANGLES then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

In the early part of the home straight KNUTE (J. Felix) was held up for clear running and near the 200 metres was forced to shift out to improve.

Stewards questioned Jockey F. Edwards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of WANDERING STAR. Jockey Edwards advised that the mare travelled well during the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing. Jockey Edwards added that, whilst the mare did not feel sore in its action over the concluding stages, it did not feel completely comfortable in the home straight. Trainer O. Cairns was at a loss to explain the performance of WANDERING STAR and undertook to inform stewards should anything be amiss in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of WANDERING STAR did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7: - Murphy’s Construction & Maintenance Class 2 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – KOOLASACAT 2nd – MASTER MORGAN 3rd – JUST THE TONIC 4th – SECRET ORDERS

After riding STAR SPRAY in Race 1, Jockey D. Simmons became indisposed and was unable to fulfil his engagement for UNREAL. Jockey J. Felix was substituted. Jockey Simmons was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

MISS LIBERTY (A. Coome) began awkwardly and lost ground.

In the early and middle stages YEAH MATE (F. Edwards) over-raced.

Near the 1000 metres and again at the 800 metres DONNA CECILIA (A. Dykes) improved onto the heels of UNREAL (J. Felix), was forced to steady and lost ground.

Near the 200 metres Jockey D’Avila, the rider of SECRET ORDERS, dropped his whip.

Stewards intend to inquire into the reason for HAPPY JONES (C. Whiteley) being checked near the 250 metres.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
