She stated that the mare jumped well and was then able to lead without any effort. After leading ROCKABABE travelled kindly throughout and at no stage did she consider restraining the mare and surrendering the lead. App Taylor said from the 600m she allowed the mare to stride forward and was comfortable in doing so. She further stated that at the previous start where she had got back in a 1000m race the mare was not suited to shorter distance races which necessitated early speed. She further stated that ROCKABABE was better suited to longer distance races when allowed to do her own work in front.

The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
A post race veterinary examination of MODERN RED which fell near the 50m revealed the gelding had severe abrasions to the lower half of the near hind leg and a laceration to the point of the hock of the off hind as well a laceration to the medial aspect of the off hind half way up the cannon bone which is consistent with the gelding being galloped on.
