RUNJANA (R Goltz) was withdrawn by order of Stewards at 3.57 p.m. acting on Veterinary advice when the filly was found to be lame in the off-fore leg. All bets on RUNJANA were refunded and deductions made less 67c in the $1 win, less 28c in the $1 place. Trainer L Hatch (RUNJANA) was advised a Veterinary certificate is required prior to the filly’s next start.

SANTIERA (S Richardson) was slowly away.

NOTTING (J Sharp) jumped away awkwardly coming into contact with RIKOKO (M Dorrington).

Shortly after the start, KUNDU DAN (C Bumstead) shifted out taking RIKOKO out onto NOTTING which lost ground when forced across the heels of JOLEKA BEAUTY (S Apthorpe).

Near the 800m, STYLISH CHEREE (A Best), which was racing greenly, shifted out taking STAMOUNA (N Evans) wider on the track. STAMOUNA then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

STYLISH CHEREE shifted in under pressure over the final 100m.

Jockey L McCoy (BUCKBEAK) was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in leaving the 800m causing WINNING EXPRESS (B Powell) to be eased.

Approaching the 500m, LINKSFIELD, which was inclined to over race, improved onto the heels of WINNING EXPRESS and shifted out.

WINNING EXPRESS had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m to near the 250m when disappointed for a run between AUGUST FAIR and MONMAGIC, which shifted out.

Leaving the 200m STIMULUS LADY (K Banks) became awkward when tightened for room by EL PECADOR, which shifted in.

JUST A FREAK (C Pye) over raced in the early and middle stages.

The saddle on LOCAL DUST slipped forward leaving the 1400m resulting in the lead bag and all of the saddle packing becoming dislodged from under the saddle and giving the apprentice a very difficult ride. Trainer M Hemmings (LOCAL DUST) was advised that as the gelding failed to carry the allotted weight for the entire race, Stewards deemed the horse to be disqualified under the terms of AR143.

JUST A THIEF (B Calkin) was momentarily held up approaching the 400m.

SEMI IMPOSE (R Goltz) had difficultly in obtaining clear running from the 400m to near the 250m.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of MAHARISHI jockey J Sharp stated that the gelding settled in a good position in the event however he felt that the horse was under pressure to hold its position at the 700m and in his opinion was very disappointing under the circumstances. Trainer M Nolan stated that it would now be his intention to spell the gelding. A post race Veterinary examination of MAHARISHI failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Approaching the 500m, PIPE DREAM (R Goltz) and AURTOBE made contact on a number of occasions when the rider of AURTOBE was attempting to shift out to obtain clear running.

PLEBEIAN hung out rounding the home turn.

AURTOBE was hampered on a number of occasions from the 200m onwards when JUST SEVEN shifted in under pressure.
Leaving the 200m, AVANT RAPIDE (N Tomizawa) shifted in under pressure and was forced to ease from the heels of COUNTESS DEHERE (J Sharp).

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINNING BEST, jockey B Powell stated that he felt the horse hung in throughout and raced greenly due to this being the geldings’ first start under lights and he further stated that he felt the saddle shifted back near the 800m. A subsequent Veterinary examination of WINNING BEST revealed the gelding to have an irregular heart beat. Stewards advised trainer W Baker that a Veterinary examination following a track gallop is required prior to the geldings’ next start. Trainer W Baker was further advised that a warning is placed on WINNING BEST due to its racing manners.

Near the 400m, SUPREME FLYER hung in across the heels of RONSTADT (C Pye) and lost ground, WINNING SPECTRUM (B Powell) which was following was obliged to check from that mare’s heels and lost ground.

On returning to scale MY BOY BAANYA was inspected by the Veterinary officer who found the gelding to be badly lame in the near-fore leg. Connections were advised that MY BOY BAANYA would require a veterinary certificate prior to next start.
