SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As M. Hellyer was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: CF & JE Miles Building Contractors Class 6 Plate – 1200m
1st – Liger 2nd – Kneel And Raise 3rd – Mohawk 4th – Just A Clasic

Track Surface Temperature: 34 degrees

GRAND COMMANDER was declared a late scratching at 2.22 pm on veterinary advice.

Approaching and rounding the home turn, JUST A CLASSIC (N. Tomizawa) raced in restricted room to the inside of GOLD RATING (J. Cook)

SEMI WELLS (K. Ashton) was caught 3 wide without cover throughout the race.

Apprentice J. Letherby was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on PRINCE LIONHEART, which settled at the rear of the field today, which was in contrast to its most recent start where it led throughout. Apprentice Letherby explained he was instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable, and although it was not his intention to lead last start, the pace of that race was very slow and after being caught wide he elected to allow the gelding to stride to the lead. Trainer P. Hulbert confirmed that it was not his intention to lead on PRINCE LIONHEART at its most recent start, however as the race unfolded the gelding was allowed to stride forward. He further added that he instructed apprentice Letherby that there appeared to be more speed in today’s race and to settle the gelding where it was comfortable with cover. P.Hulbert further added that PRINCE LIONHEART had raced well in the past when settling at the rear of the field, however was disappointed with the finishing effort of the gelding in the straight today.

Trainer P. Kings was questioned regarding the improved performance of LIGER today. He explained that LIGER may have chocked down at its most recent start at Doomben on 12 December, which was its first run for 4 weeks. He further added that LIGER raced in a tongue-control bit today for the first time and the training regime of the gelding had changed in that he had been swimming LIGER for fitness rather than trackwork.


Race 2: Blue Sky Thoroughbreds Class 1 H’cap - 1625m
1st – Mallory Park 2nd – Moringa’s King 3rd – De Ville 4th – Fleichmans Rocket

Track Surface Temperature: 30 degrees

As J. Watkins was to be overweight, P. Wolfgram was substituted as the rider of ENSHALA. J. Watkins was fined the sum of $100.

Prior to correct weight, J. Byrne, rider of the second placegetter, MORINGA’S KING, exercised his right to view the film of the race in the straight to ascertain if had gounds for protest against the winner. J. Byrne elected not to proceed further.

FLEISCHMANS ROCKET (S. Drake) reared at the start and lost ground.

DELICIOUS (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.

BRENNAN (K. Mizobe) shifted out shortly after the start and inconvenienced MORINGA’S KING (J. Byrne).

Near the 1400m, BARRAMUNDI TOM (M. Speers) had to be eased to avoid the heels of BRENNAN when taken in slightly by ENSHALA (P. Wolfgram).

After passing the 800m, DE VILLE (A. Best) shifted out to improve, resulting in THREE MILE ISLAND (R. Goltz) being taken wider on the track.

Near the 550m, DELICIOUS (N. Tomizawa) was disappointed for clear running between BARRRAMUNDI TOM (M. Speers) and FLEISCHMANS ROCKET (S. Drake). A short distance later, DELICIOUS shifted out abruptly to improve. FLEICHMANS ROCKET, which was following, was inconvenienced as a consequence.

Approaching the 400m, HEZA ROCKER was bumped by ENSHALA (P. Wolfgram), which shifted in away from MORINGA’S KING.

Rounding the home turn, DE VILLE and and THREE MILE ISLAND bumped on a number of occasions.

In the early part of the straight, FLEISCHMANS ROCKET was held up when unable to obtain clear running.

S Katsidis was questioned regarding the performance of HEZA ROCKER. He explained that he was held up from the 600m until rounding the home turn and then was inconvenienced when tightened for room near the 450m. He added that, in his view, he was not disappointed with the performance of the gelding in the circumstances and that had he been able to improve from the 500m he was of the view he would have finished in the placings. A post race veterinary examination of HEZA ROCKER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

K. Mizobe, rider of BRENNAN, which compounded badly in the home straight, explained that the gelding may not have been suited to the 1625m of today’s race as its best form has been over shorter distances. K. Mizobe added that BRENNAN was very disappointing today and could offer no tangible explanation for this. A post race veterinary examination of BRENNAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Trainer N. Petersen was questioned regarding the improved performance of MALLORY PARK today. N. Petersen explained that the gelding had been working well, however he was surprised that MALLORY PARK was able to win, bearing in mind its most recent form.


Race 3: Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale Maiden H'cap – 1300m
1st – Tough Luck 2nd – Random Orbit 3rd – Tycoon Cat 4th – Dark Secrets

Track Surface Temperature: 28 degrees

ROSALITA (A. Best) reared at the start and lost ground.

PROUD AS PUNCH (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly.

N. Tomizawa, rider of TYCOON CAT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 850m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RANDOM ORBIT (J. Letherby), which was taken in on to REPLY (P. Wolfgram),which was tightened for room and had to be checked and further taken in across the rightful running of PROUD AS PUNCH (K. Yoshida), which was severely checked. N. Tomizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 race meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 December, and to expire at midnight, 10 January 2010.

GRANDMA SNEEZY (K. Banks) hung out from after passing the 600m until the early part of the straight.

Aftr passing the 400m, RANDOM ORBIT (J. Letherby) shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

TOUGH LUCK (S. Katsidis) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

K. Banks, rider of GRANDMA SNEEZY, explained to stewards that the filly hung out from the 600m and she was unable to ride the filly out in her normal manner in the home straight due to GRANDMA SNEEZY hanging out. K. Banks added that she was of the view that the filly may have got its tongue over the bit.





Race 4: 7 Sunrise QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Often Wrong 2nd – Pure Act 3rd – Vietato Fumare 4th – Ramani
Track Surface Temperature: 25 degrees

ADASHOFSPEED (J. Letherby) jumped away awkwardly and then got its head up and lost ground.

PURE ACT (M. Milford) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, BLUE ALI (J. Murphy) shifted out, taking ZAKATO (K. Yoshida) out on to GO DAN GO (S. Drake), which was tightened for room between those runners and LATARGIRL (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly.

CHADWICK (S. Apthorpe) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Upon straightening, GO DAN GO was hampered when tightened for room between BUSKER (T. Banks) and RENT OUT (J. Watkins), which shifted out to improve. J. Watkins, rider of RENT OUT, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

BUSKER was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

LADY KILKENNY (K. Banks) and BUSKER (T. Banks) raced wide throughout.



Race 5: www.magicmillions.com.au Class 4 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Olanal 2nd – Second Hand Mac 3rd – Silversmith 4th – Imagined
Track Surface Temperature: 20 degrees

SILVERSMITH (R. Goltz) was hampered when tightened for room on jumping away between TESKA (J. Kehoe) and SWIFT SANDS (P. Wolfgram), which shifted out.

WOOROOROOKA (A. Best) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

OLANAL (R. Hinricks) was slow to begin.

TESKA hung out when placed under pressure in the straight.

J. Murphy, rider of OVER THE PAGE, which performed below expectations, explained that the mare weakened badly when placed under pressure and, in her view, is not suited to racing on cushion tracks. A post race veterinary examination of OVER THE PAGE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Apprentice J. Letherby, rider of FANTASTIC MOVIE, which performed poorly, explained that after beginning well, the gelding never travelled well at any stage and, in his opinion, did not handle the cushion track today. Trainer B Dais explained that the gelding trialled well leading up to today’s race and connections were confident of the gelding’s chances. He concurrerd with jockey Letherby that the gelding is not suited to racing on cushion tracks. A post race veterinary examination of FANTASTIC MOVIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

J. Watkins, rider of DETECTED, which compounded badly over the final 400m, advsied that, in his view, the gelding is not suited to cushion tracks. A post race veterinary examination of DETECTED revealed the gelding to have an abnormal heart rate. Connections advised that DETECTED would now be spelled.

A. Best, rider of WOOROOROOKA, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right to the end of the race. He was also reminded of his obligations to weigh in when there is prizemoney for 5th.


Race 6: Magic Millions 2yo Plate 1100m
1st –Lilleelavee 2nd – Dance Girl Dance 3rd – Rocklet 4th – Icedane

Track Surface Temperature: 17 degrees

ROCKLET (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

Near the 950m, LADY SHOWHEART (R. Goltz) was momentarily eased from the heels of LILLEELAVEE (K. Banks), which shifted in when not fully clear. A short distance later, LADY SHOWHEART (R. Goltz) shifted out, resulting in NEPRO (M. Speers), which was following, being inconvenienced.

B. Stewart, rider of MANIC MONDAY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DECIBELLA (N. Tomizawa) resulting in DECIBELLA having to be checked. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 December and to expire at midnight, 2 January 2009.

N. Tomizawa, rider of DECIBELLA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that rounding the home turn he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of RHODAMINE (P. Wolfgram), resulting in RHODAMINE having to be checked. N. Tomizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to be served concurrently with the 9 meeting suspension incurred in race 3.

R. McMahon, rider of DANCE GIRL DANCE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that shortly after straightening he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PERTINENCE (S. Katsidis), resulting in PERTINENCE being tightened for room and taken in on to DECIBELLA (N. Tomizawa), which was severely hampered between PERTINENCE and LADY SHOWHEART (R. Goltz). R. McMahon was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings to commence at midnight, 28 December and to expire at midnight, 6 January 2009.

NEPRO (M. Speers) and PERTINENCE (S. Katsidis) raced wide throughout.

Trainer F. Adams was questioned regarding LILLEELAVEE leading today which was in contrast to its most recent starts. F. Adams explained that he gave K. Banks no specific instructions however after beginning well he was satisfied that the mare took up the leading position as it has raced well in that spot previously.



Race 7: Southern Cross Ford Open H'cap – 1100m
1st – Royal Hope 2nd – Raging Rastus 3rd – Wulkuraka 4th – Royal Colours

Track Surface Temperature: 15 degrees

OUR HEART (J. Byrne: reared at the start and lost ground.

WILLKURAKA (R. Goltz) knuckled on jumping away.

ACE IN THE HOLE (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly.

After passing the 750m, ROYAL HOPE (J. Watkins) shifted out to improve, taking WULLKURAKA (R. Goltz) wider on the track.

Stewards questioned K. Banks regarding the riding tactics adopted on SON OF ZAHA, which settled worse than midfield with cover, which was in contrast to its most recent start. K. Banks explained that she was instructed to ride the horse forward howver the gelding did not show any early speed, so she elected to restrain SON OF ZAHA and ride it where it was comfortable. Stewards noted the explanation.

Following the race, M. Radecker advised stewards that ROYAL COLOURS got it tongue over the bit during the event.


Race 8: 1300Millions Class 1 H'cap – 1050m
1st – Miss Rye 2nd – Fortza Potenza 3rd – Candefy 4th – Forza Potenza

Track Surface Temperature: 15 degrees

GEORGIA GOLD (R. Kerwin) was slow to begin.

LITTLE THEATRE (M. Speers) was tightened for room at the start between MEDIA TART (N. Tomizawa) and FORZA POTENZA (S. Drake), which jumped outwards.

After being a little slow to begin, CANDEFY (R. Goltz) was then hampered by MISS RYE (S. Katsidis), which shifted in.

GEORGIA GOLD (R. Kerwin) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

SEISMIC (A. Best). LITTLE THEATRE (M. Speers) and MEDIA TART (N. Tomizawa) raced wide throughout.

K. Banks, rider of the 4th placegetter, ANNIE ROCKS, was fined$200 for weighing in overweight.

A post race veterinary examination of SEISMIC, which weakened in the home straight, revealed no obvious abnormalities.
