Stewards questioned P. Wolfgram regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SCARLETT JO. P. Wolfgram stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages and when a run presented itself on straightening, he felt the filly was unable to take advantage of that run and, in his opinion, felt the performance was disappointing. P. Wolfgram added that connections had indicated to him it may be their intention to spell SCARLETTJO. Stewards intend to confirm this with trainer M. Nolan.
C. Gilby, rider of KALINYA, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to 100m. C. Gilby was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 meetings, to commence at midnight, 2 July, the expiration of a previously incurrred suspension, and to expire at midnight, 9 July 2010. In considering penalty, stewards were mindful of C. REDWOOD LASS raced wide in the early and middle stages.
AMOREENA (C. Gilby) and PACIFIC THUNDER raced wide for the majority of the race.
As trainer T. Catip was not present at tonight’s meeting, stewards questioned jockey K. Yoshida regarding the improved performance of AMBUSHED, which he had ridden at its previous start. Jockey Yoshida stated that, in his opinion, tonight’s field was not of the same quality that the gelding faced in recent starts, and also that the horse was stepping up in distance, and felt that these were factors in tonight’s improved performance. Stewards noted his explanation and intend to interview trainer T. Catip at a later date.
A post race veterinary examination of STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT, which finished tailed off, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
