SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Toowoomba, 15.1.10

Jockey K. Banks was reprimanded for failing to seek permission to leave the track.

Race 3. Trainer T. Sears reported that subsequent to the poor performance of NOVA CHENKA he had that horse scoped, which revealed no abnormalities. Mr Sears further advised that he will continue with the horse’s current preparation however may make adjustments to its gear.

Race 6. Jockey K. Banks and trainer L. Roche were questioned regarding the performance of REILLY BLUE. K. Banks stated that the gelding travelled well until a point near the home turn, however when placed under pressure REILLY BLUE failed to respond to her riding and as such proved disappointing. Trainer L. Roche stated that the gelding’s trackwork had been compromised as a result of the recent wet weather and as such he felt this contributed to the poor performance. Stewards noted the explanation.


Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1100m
1st – Tax Evader 2nd – Regency Royale 3rd – Tehiti 4th – Sure Can Dance

Track temperature: 55 degrees celsius

The start of the race was delayed when TAX EVADER reared and got its near foreleg over the partition of the barriers. TAX EVADER was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt regarding its barrier manners.

TEHUTI (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly, losing ground.

TAX EVADER (N. Yamada) began awkwardly.

MISS ALBERICI (J. Taylor), which race greenly throughout, hung in over the concluding stages. Trainer K. Waller was advised that a warning was being placed on the filly regarding its racing manners.

RUTHLESS SECRET (D. Sparks) also raced greenly and hung in near the 200m, resulting in YOSEMITE SAM (J. Bowditch) having to be eased.

TAX EVADER shifted out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

LIL’ RED MONKEY (P. Wolfgram) raced wide for the majority of the race.


Race 2: Southern Cross Automative Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st –The Ringmaster 2nd – Hold Your Ground 3rd – Saint Faustina 4th – Margani

Track temperature: 50 degrees celsius

MR PIN WA was declared a late scratching at 2.53 pm after the gelding was found to have blood in its off side nostril on arrival at the barriers. There were no deductions to betting applicable.

As S. Galloway was unable to a arrive on course by the prescribed time to fulfil his engagement on KAJAGOOGOO, he was replaced by J. Taylor. Stewards at this stage have accepted his explanation.

ONYASONNY (M. Dorrington) and HOLD YOUR GROUND (R. Goltz) were slow to begin.

ARMA (N. Evans) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the starting gates.

Shortly after the start, ONYASONNY (M. Dorrington) was forced to ease from the heels of HOLD YOUR GROUND (R. Goltz), which was taken out by AUTHORITATIVE (M. O'Brien).

INDIGOFERA (J. Bowditch), when racing wide, hung out during the early and middle stages.

Near the 900m, INDIGOFERA shifted out, resulting in CLEOPATRA’S LIST (E. Kehoe) having to eased from that runner’s heels.

ARMA hung out for the majority of the event. Trainer D. Gollan was advised that a warning would be placed on ARMA regarding its racing manners.

A post race veterinary examination of CLEOPATRA’S LIST and MARGANI revealed both had sustained small lacerations to their off fore cannons.


Race 3: PSP Video Maiden Plate – 1100m

1st – Power Report 2nd – Tellintaimz 3rd – Stephanie 4th – Shah Rukh

Track temperature: 50 degrees celsius.

As W. Clasohm failed to arrive on course, N. Evans was substituted as the rider of TOP IT OFF. Stewards will interview W. Clasohm regarding this matter.

The start was delayed when MACHO CAT required a gear adjustment.

Connections were advised that a warning was being placed on MACHO CAT regarding its pre-race behaviour.

TREVALYN GOLD (S. Drake) jumped outwards at the start, hampering TOP IT OFF (N. Evans). A short distance later, TREVALYN GOLD shifted in, resulting in BELLE MOTRICE (R. Goltz) having to be steadied.

DEKARNAGE (M. O'Brien) was tightened for room at the start between BELLE MOTRICE (R. Goltz) and MONDE BIJOU (B. Richardson), which jumped outwards.

TELLINTAIMZ (M. Hellyer) and POWER REPORT (K. Banks) made contact on jumping away.

TELLINTAIMZ became awkward whilst hanging out rounding the 700m turn.

MACHO CAT (B. Wallace) raced ungenerously for a short distance approaching the 700m.

WHATAWEAPON (J. Taylor), which hung out in the middle stages, raced wide throughout.


Race 4: Sky Racing Maiden Plate – 1500m
1st – Ai Jo 2nd – Ivan’s Choice 3rd – Modern Al 4th – Ghiaccio

Track temperature: 45 degrees celsius.

The start was delayed after AI JO was kicked behind the barrers. Jockey M. Hellyer requested that JINXY be examined by the veterinary surgeon on arriving at the start. Both horses were cleared to race.

CELTIC (B. Richardson) and SALT SHAKER (B. Thomson) jumped with their heads in the air.

MISS CALIFORNIA (M. Palmer) raced ungenerously during the early stages.

JINXY (M. Hellyer) brushed the running rail at the 400m.

MODERN AL (G. Geran) hung out for the majority of the race and near the 1200m shifted out, resulting in CELTIC having to be eased to avoid the heels of that runner.

CELTIC shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages of the race. Apprentice B. Richardson, rider of CELTIC, was advised that she must stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.

PENGUIN SUITE (D. Sparks) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of LET’S GO OMBRA, which tailed off, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A warning was issued to the connections of LET’S GO OMBRA regarding the gelding’s poor performance.



Race 5: Racing Fraternity Flood Fundraiser Class 1 H'cap – 1500m
1st –Face Two 2nd – Count Romano 3rd – I Love Tobouggie 4th – Smarty Smart

Track temperature: 36 degrees celsius.

WILLSEEYOU (N. Tomizawa) and FACE TWO (B. Richardson) made contact on jumping away.

SMARTY SMART (K. Yoshida) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Stewards questioned apprentice B. Richardson and trainer R. Coveney regarding the performance and tactics adopted on FACE TWO today. Mr Coveney advised stewards he issued no specific instructions to apprentice B. Richardwon other than to ride the gelding where it was comfortable. He added that the horse raced on Friday at the Sunshine Coast and was very surprised that FACE TWO won today’s race. Whilst stewards noted Mr Coveney’s explanation, he was advised that he should inform stewards of the tactics he intends to adopt on FACE TWO in future.
Race 6: 7 Sunrise Class 3 Plate – 1850m
1st – Cinquacasino 2nd – Argenteum 3rd – Zabeleo 4th – Winger In

Track temperature: 36 degrees celsius

REM’E’CAN (P. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.

ARGENTEUM (J. Letherby) began awkwardly.

SILVER DREAM (J. Bowditch) overraced in the early and middle stages.

Near the 500m, SILVER DREAM was forced to ease when racing to the inside of BITASILK (J. Taylor), which shifted in and away from CINQUACASINO (S. Galloway), which was laying in.

W. Doyle, rider of WINGER IN, dropped his whip near the 400m.

BITASILK (J. Taylor) overraced and hung out for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned G. Geran, rider of NO SHACKLES, as to the reason why he had 2 prolonged looks over his shoulder over the concluding stages of the race. Jockey Geran advised that he received a call from apprentice jockey M. Palmer, rider of WITH ELEGANCE, after shifting out and bumping that horse. Jockey Geran added that apprentice Palmer then called again to him, which was the reason for him taking a second look over his shoulder. Apprentice Palmer advised stewards that he did in fact call to jockey Geran after receiving a bump from that rider after it shifted out. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards questioned jockey J. Taylor and trainer M. Kropp in relation to the disappointing performance of BITASILK, which performed below market expectations. Jockey Taylor advised that the mare hung out for the majority of the event and when asked to improve near the 600m, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer M. Kropp also expressed disappointment with the performance today, however did note that the horse hung out for the majority of the race. A post race veterinary examination of BITASILK failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards noted both explanations, however did issue a warning regarding BITASILK hanging out.


Race 7: XXXX Bitter Class 3 Plate – 1200m
1st – Canna 2nd – Fizzy 3rd – Lady Leo 4th – Dulbydilla

Track temperature: 34 degrees celsius.

Stewards intend to seek clarafication from the Trainers Service Centre in relation to the late declaration of rider for MONASHEE MATTY.

MONASHEE MATTY (B. Richardson), FIZZY (A. Best) and GRAIN TRADER (G. Geran) were tightened for room at the start between MALLORY PARK (K. Banks) and LADY LEO, which shifted out. In this incident, FIZZY and GRAIN TRADER lost ground.

TIZ COREY (M. O’Brien) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

I’LL RULE (A. Smith) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 550m, LADY LEO (K. Yoshida) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of REDBOLT (M. Wood), which shifted in. M. Wood, rider of REDBOLT, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 400m, TRUE BLUE ANGEL (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied when it hung in on to the heels of GRAIN TRADER.



Race 8: 7 News Class 6 Plate – 1200m
1st – Ponzi Scheme 2nd – Fidakat 3rd – Spanish Fling 4th – Flying Along

Track temperature: 31 degrees celsius.

FLYING ALONG (R. Goltz) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, THREE SWALLOWS (J. Piper) and GOLD RATING (B. Evans) were tightened for room between KINGS COURSE (S. Galloway) and GALLANT PILOT (M. O’Brien), which shifted out.

PONZI SCHEME (G. Geran) and JUST A TOUCH (T. Fujinuma) were momentarily held up near the 300m.

INNOCENT HARRY (P. Wolfgram) and KINGS COURSE raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned apprentice N. Yamada and trainer R. Stephenson in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of MIRABEAU, which performed below market expectations. Apprentice Yamada stated that the gelding travelled well until a point near the 700m, however when placed under pressure to improve, it failed to respond to his riding. He added that, in his opinion, MIRABEAU was better suited when able to race on the outside of runners. Trainer R. Stephenson agreed with N. Yamada’s assessment that the horse is better suited when able to race outside other runners. He further added that MIRABEAU was forced to carry more weight today than it had in recent starts. Mr Stephenson further stated that he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of MIRABEAU today.
