Race 1: MAKER NEYLON MOTORS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Night Wanderer 2nd – Back In Drac 3rd – Eskervinth 4th – Love That Chick
Track temperature: 39 degrees Celsius
NOELA'S ROMP (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
After being caught wide in the early stages jockey S. Bogenhuber allowed BACK IN DRAC to stride forward and assume the position outside the leader leaving the 1000m.
ESKERVINTH (J. Brown) raced keenly during the early and middle stages of the event.
Race 2: PLATINUM ROOFING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1st – My Mate Sully 2nd – Valentine Girl 3rd – Suhailah 4th – Heavenly Heights
Track temperature: 29 degrees Celsius
BROTHER ELVIS (G. Geran) and HEAVENLY HEIGHTS (S. Bogenhuber) made contact on jumping away.
SYRUS (C. Eaton) and OUR BARTY BOY (K. Yoshida) were both slow to begin.
LITTLE BEAUJANGLES (S. Apthorpe) raced with its head in the air for a short distance whilst being restrained near the 900m.
Near the 900m HEAVENLY HEIGHTS shifted in and away from BROTHER ELVIS and made contact with the running rail.
OUR BARTY BOY laid out during the early and middle stages of the event and as a result shifted wider on the track.
HEAVENLY HEIGHTS laid in from the 600m.
Near the 300m SUHAILAH (N. Yamada) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with HEAVENLY HEIGHTS, which was forced wider on the track. N. Yamada was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned regarding the performance of SINGLE IN LONDON (N. Tomizawa), trainer R. Lipp advised that he was not entirely disappointed with the filly's performance tonight given that it was forced to race wide for the majority of the event and was forced to make a sustained run from the 700. Mr Lipp further advised that SINGLE IN LONDON would derive a fitness benefit after its first-up run tonight.
Race 3: RAY WESTON CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Brother Love 2nd – Ablackahawka 3rd – Danish Lass 4th – Supa Mega Deadly
Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius
As N. Evans was not riding due to personal reasons, S. Drake was substituted as the rider of IRISH GIG.
The start was delayed when DANISH LASS (N. Yamada) became fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination. DANISH LASS was subsequently cleared to start.
BROTHER LOVE (K. Yoshida) began awkwardly.
Near the 1000m, when being restrained, SUPA MEGA DEADLY (G. Geran) raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air for a short distance. BROTHER LOVE, which was following, and IRISH GIG (S. Drake), which was following that runner, both had to be restrained as a consequence.
ABLACKAHAWKA (N. Tomizawa) was held up for clear running from the 500m until the 300m.
Near the 400m WINNING APPROACH (W. O'Connell) shifted out bumping DANISH LASS, which was forced wider on the track.
BROTHER LOVE laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 4: WATER SKIERS WAREHOUSE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Diamond Heist 2nd – Grandeur King 3rd – Carved In Stone 4th – Heartbroken
Track temperature: 21 degrees Celsius
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer L. Powell for DIAMOND HEIST (R. Goltz), which was having its first run for her stable tonight, to race the gelding without a tongue tie.
The start was delayed when HEARTBROKEN (A. Best) initially proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. The start was further delayed when DIAMOND HEIST was required to be resaddled behind the barriers.
HEARTBROKEN made contact with the barrier partition on jumping away.
FOUR JOY (J. Brown) began awkwardly.
Leaving the 800m SILVERADO (N. Tomizawa) improved on to the heels of SKYTANA (N. Yamada) and was forced to ease, and in doing so shifted in making contact with GRANDEUR KING (S. Drake).
HEARTBROKEN was held up and unable to improve for a short distance near the 400m.
Near the 50m HEARTBROKEN improved on to the heels of CARVED IN STONE (S. Bogenhuber) and as a result shifted out causing SILVERADO to be steadied.
Stewards questioned trainer L. Powell in relation to the seemingly improved performance of DIAMOND HEIST. Ms Powell advised that she only took over the training of the gelding three weeks ago and when he arrived in her stable there was evidence that the horse had been speedy cutting. She said that since she has had DIAMOND HEIST shod by her farrier, it appears that problem has been corrected. She further added that leading up to tonight's event the horse had worked well on the cushion track and on his work she expected a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5: ZEDTEC MAIDEN H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Offyarocka 2nd – Princess Forse 3rd – Leo Jet 4th – Electrojet
Track temperature: 21 degrees Celsius
The start of this race was delayed to allow the completion of an interstate harness event.
Approaching the 1100m HERECOMESTHETRAIN (N. Tomizawa) and STAR OF MAHER (R. Ride) bumped when HERECOMESTHETRAIN shifted out marginally.
OFFYAROCKA (A. Best) was held up for a short distance leaving the 400m, and then when obtaining clear running OFFYAROCKA shifted out making contact with ELECTROJET (K. Yoshida).
ROCKLEA RAIDER (M. O'Brien) laid out rounding the home turn.
Shortly after turning for home A. Best (OFFYAROCKA) accidentally struck ELECTROJET across the nose with his whip.
