Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius
Correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of 2nd placegetter SEZWHO (S. Bogenhuber) to view the Stewards' patrol footage to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner CARRY LARRY'S ROSE (G. Goold). After viewing the video, connections indicated they did not wish to proceed with an objection.
On jumping CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE (S. Apthorpe) was bumped by TYCOON'S BEST (K. Yoshida), which shifted out.
MONDE BIJOU (D. Robinson) blundered at the start, shifted out and bumped SECRET KISS (J. Letherby).
RESONATING (S. Drake) began awkwardly.
Making the turn near the 900m CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE brushed the rail, then commenced to race keenly and some distance later was checked off the heels of CARRY LARRY'S ROSE.
Near the 50m MAKER'S MARQUE (J. Hoopert) was eased when SECRET KISS shifted out marginally. Apprentice J. Letherby (SECRET KISS) was advised to exercise more care whilst riding his mounts out.
Race 2: NEIL MANSELL GROUP CLASS 3 PLATE - 1300M

On jumping, LADY INNOCENT (J. Kehoe) was hampered by SLYSERA (G. Goold), which shifted out.
Shortly after the start TOUGH TAIMZ (K. Yoshida) shifted out slightly and bumped ALL TAKEN (S. Bogenhuber).
In the early and middle stages TOUGH TAIMZ raced very keenly and despite the efforts of its rider refused to settle.
K. Yoshida (TOUGH TAIMZ) explained that he was instructed to ride forward and get cover if possible, as is the horse's usual racing pattern, however in tonight's event when BREWER (D. Robinson) improved to his outside in the early stages, TOUGH TAIMZ took hold of the bit strongly and despite his efforts was unable to be restrained, pulled extremely hard for a major part of the race and consequently when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, it weakened badly. He added that in his opinion there were no significant abnormalities with TOUGH TAIMZ, however he believed the manner in which it raced was the sole contributor to the horse's poor performance. The explananation was accepted. A post-race veterinary examination of TOUGH TAIMZ revealed no abnormalities.
D. Robinson (BREWER) explained that he was instructed to ride forward and try to lead if possible, and in the early stages he rode the horse along to carry out his instructions, however after establishing a forward position he became aware that TOUGH TAIMZ, which was racing immediately to his inside, was pulling very hard and as a consequence he tried to restrain BREWER to get cover behind that horse, but the gelding failed to respond, and on each occasion when he did try to settle, BREWER grabbed the bit and wanted to race more keenly. He added that for this reason he elected to remain racing where he was, however when he placed the horse under pressure it gave little response and was most disappointing in the straight. The explananation was accepted.

ROCK AROUND (S. Drake) began awkwardly.
Near the 500m BABY RASY, which was inclined to lay out slightly, was eased when close to the heels of GIVE IT BERRIES (J. Brown) which also shifted in slightly.
Approaching the home turn BAG OF RIDDLES (G. Goold) was awkwardly placed behind the heels of QUESTION MARK (P. Wolfgram).
In the straight GIVE IT BERRIES continued to lay in and near the 100m BABY RASY was again steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of that horse.
Inside the final 50m ROCK AROUND was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of BAG OF RIDDLES which shifted out slightly.
C. Eaton (HOME AND HOSED) was reprimanded for using the whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 5: XMAS IN JULY IN THE MEMBERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M
1st – Slick Lago 2nd – Aussie Agenda 3rd – Sideshow Summer 4th – Charo's Run
Track temperature: 9 degrees Celsius
GOLD ICE (S. Apthorpe) and BEST PICK (D. Robinson) were slow to begin.
AUSSIE AGENDA (K. Yoshida) bounded at the start.
Near the 1100m DA DOO RON RON (J. Letherby), which was racing keenly, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of AUSSIE AGENDA.
In the middle stages both NO HOOPS (R. Ride) and ROUGE ROI (P. Wolfgram) raced keenly and got their head up.
Approaching the 400m CHARO'S RUN (N. Evans) was held up behind ROUGE ROI and had to be shifted in to find clear running. Shortly after this when racing to the outside of the heels of SLICK LAGO (S. Drake), CHARO'S RUN then shifted out resulting in NO HOOPS and ROUGE ROI being crowded for room.
K. Yoshida (AUSSIE AGENDA) was fined $100 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account that jockey Yoshida had recently been reprimanded for similar breaches of the Rule.
