TRUE MALT (K. Yoshida), TOSHINAGA (T. Chambers), BONNAY FLYER (A. Merritt) and IT’S MISTY AGAIN (J. Kehoe) were all tightened for room at the start between LETHAL ROSE (N. Evans), which shifted out slightly, and GENERAL KINGSMAN (G. Goold), which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. As a result of this, TOSHINAGA was forced to be severely checked and lose ground, and IT’S MISTY AGAIN was taken in across the heels of LETHAL ROSE.
GENERAL KINGSMAN shifted in abruptly at the 600m.
TRUE MALT raced ungenerously between the 600m and 400m.
TORNADO FORCE (D. Robinson) shifted out under pressure over the final 100m, and approaching the winning post, resulting in TRUE MALT (K. Yoshida) being eased approaching the winning post. D. Robinson, rider of TORNADO FORCE was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
PRETTY POLLYANNA (S. Bogenhuber) and TRUE MALT laid in over the concluding stages.
GENERAL ASCOT (J. Letherby) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: K & R Plumbing Supplies Class 2 H'cap – 1000m
1st – Albion 2nd – Bullet One 3rd – Fine Tune 4th – Rattle The Tin
Track temperature – 29 degrees Celsius
RATTLE THE TIN (B. Appo) shifted in and bumped SCARLETT SUN (J. Kehoe) at the start.
FINE TUNE (K. Yoshida) and THUNDERALI (A. Merritt) were slow to begin.
ALBION (J. Letherby) hung in from the 400m and down the running, and as a result J. Letherby was obliged to stop riding and straighten over the concluding stages.
S. Bogenhuber, rider of PRETTY POLLYANNA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BULLET ONE (N. Tomizawa), which was taken in onto RATTLE THE TIN, which in turn was taken in, tightening the running of SCARLETT SUN, which had to be checked as a result. S. Bogenhuber was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 March, and to expire at midnight, 17 March.
ALBION raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 900m, WAR STORIES (S. Bogenhuber) was steadied off the heels of HONEY D’AMOUR (S. Shield).
DON’T WALK AWAY (N. Tomizawa) was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight, resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten on several occasions.
N. Tomizawa reported that he was instructed to ride DON’T WALK AWAY with cover, however due to the slow early pace he allowed his mount to stride forward and assume the leading position.
When questioned regarding his riding tactics adopted on ELLIE LA VIE in the early and middle stages where his mount overraced in a wide position, N. Nishio stated his instructions were to obtain cover, however the horse would not come back underneath him and raced ungenerously in the early stages. In noting the explanation stewards advised N. Nishio they believed he had erred in his riding of ELLIE LA VIE in the early stages, in that when he was unable to restrain the mare to find cover, he should have allowed his mount to stride forward and race outside the leader when there appeared an opportunity to do so.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of LITTLE ORPO, S. Bogenhuber stated that she rode the filly with cover in accordance with her instructions, however when placed under pressure leaving the 600m, the filly failed to respond to her riding and proved most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of LITTLE ORPO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Weetwood April 13 Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1625m
1st – Peace Talks 2nd – Bang On 3rd – O’Grady 4th – Without Reproach

Near the 900m, AIN’T SHE SWEET had to be steadied from the heels of LAREDO which was also steadied.
KEMPELLY (N. Tomizawa) raced wide throughout.
G. Goold reported to stewards that AIN’T SHE SWEET never travelled comfortably throughout and, in his opinion, felt sore. Trainer Mr D. Peckett advised stewards that on14 February, AIN’T SHE SWEET became cast in its stall and that he had scratched the filly from its engagement at Doomben on the 16 February. He added that AIN’T SHE SWEET had recovered from that incident and had worked well since. Stewards, in noting his comments, advised Mr Peckett that in similar circumstances he would be required to report anything to stewards that may have an effect on the performance of a horse in a race. A post race veterinary examination of AIN’T SHE SWEET revealed swelling in the near hind fetlock. Stewards advised D. Peckett he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse competing in an official trial.
T. Wolfgram, rider of OUTBACK FIGHTER, which performed below market expectations, reported that the gelding travelled well throughout the race, however when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, proved most disappointing.
