What is your background in Queensland Racing?

I’ve been training now for probably 8 or 9 years myself but mum was training for 40 years before that and my father rode in country Queensland for probably over 30 years. It was pretty much all I grew up doing and I gave my job up 12 months ago to pursue it full time.

Tell us about your current operation. How many horses do you have in work and how many staff do you employ?

We’ve got about 16 in work and three staff so it’s pretty comfortable. We’ve got one full-time worker and a couple of part-time people.

What do you love about racing?

Obviously the horses and just everything about it. I’ve always grown up loving a punt. You’re going pretty bad if you can’t enjoy yourself having a beer and a bet at the races on a Saturday.

Tell us about the horses you have qualified for the final?

Canid – Career: 73-9:14:14

I’ve had Canid for about six years, and I bought him for $400 as an untried two-year-old in an auction at the Gold Coast. He does race out of his skin most of the time.

Klammer – Career: 43-9:5:6

Klammer has been Group 2 and Group 3 placed early on in his life so he is a classy horse, but everything has got to go right for him to show it. He’ll need a bit of luck to get through them or go around them.

What do you think about the Battle of the Bush concept and what would it mean to win?

We have never had anything like it before. It would be great to win it, I think if they stick with the series it’s only going to get stronger and stronger and people can purchase horses and set them for it.
